Medium-sized beige fine-laced head with some larger bubbles. Strong distinct rich malty aroma. Toffee and raspberry notes. Hints of chocolate and raisins. Prickly sensation on the tongue. Licorice flavours balanced by smooth hop bitterness and ammonia. Very rich and smooth. Full-bodied, but far from cloying in any way. The soft hop bitterness hides much of the malty sweetness. Very drinkable. A delicious beer. BeerBiker (1392), Kathmandu, Nepal

A nice bock over average. Complex with the soft mouthfeel, that newcomers appreciate. Fullbodied bock and lots of notes such as alcohol, caramel, maltness, dryness, metallic, bread and more.... nickd717 (1384), Palo Alto, California, USA

Very dark brown in color with a fairly large off-white head. Aroma is caramel, roast, and dark fruits. Flavor is lots of caramel malt, chocolate, roast, molasses, sweet toffee, raisins and other dark fruits. Palate medium-full and very smooth. A surprisingly awesome doppelbock. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 13, 2006 Reddish brown color with a fluffy white head. Strong malty sweet aroma with slight hints of plum. Sweet but not syrupy. Actually sort of thin with lots of apple juice type notes. Not a bad beer by any stretch but the high average rating surprises me some. RSRIZZO (1369), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 5, 2007 Aroma is a sweet roasted malt scent. Color is deep dark amber with good carbonation and a loose thin head. Taste is crisp and roasted. Starting with a medium body it goes down with crisp feel. Finish comes in with creamy caramel taste that is followed by roasted flavor and a very mild bitterness. You can taste the alcohol a bit and there is a slight European taste that I feel is present in most imports. Overall its a very taste brew and a very good Doppelbock. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 5, 2003 Great malty nose and deep brown doppelbock appearance. The mouthfeel is thick and malty, a really pleasing chocolate malt flavour. The hop aroma and taste is understated which is typical of a doppelbock. I love this style. The lacing in the glass is tight and pleasing. jaymobrown (1360), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Sep 25, 2007 Bottle, from the Dodgy Deli on Cowley Road in Oxford. Beautiful brown pour, big, soft layer of light caramel foam. Sturdy, rustic bread aroma, clean and inviting. More dark bread flavor, with a lovely milk chocolate undercurrent that continues to build through the glass. Soft, full-leaning palate, just enough carbonation to keep it bright. Deeply satisfying in it’s simplicity.
A final note: what’s with the bloke on the label?
