A sublime German doppelbock. Poured an effervescent teak colour with ruby highlights and a 2cm tan head. Moderate head retention and some lacing. Rich vinous aroma with toffee notes, molasses, cinammon buns and some gingery alcohol. Oddly, the bottle stank of wet nappy, so I stayed the hell away from that. Thick, creamy body - in fact, I can’t think of a creamier beer. Beautifully rounded. God this is smooth. Highly malt-driven - the dominant flavours are molasses, creamy milk chocolate with a shot of sherry-like alcohol in the finish. I haven’t tasted a better doppelbock. (500ml bottle, Camperdown Cellars, best before 4/11/04 - doh!)

pours a dark brown color with a tan head that had great retention, but no lacing. Aroma was of nice Molasses notes and mild bread. Flavor seemed a bit lacking. A good sweet syrup flavor and not much in the way of bready malt notes. Body a a creamy sensation. Nice but could have been more.

Clear and dark, with reddish overtones that become more visible as the amount of beer in the glass diminishes, with a huge coffee colored head that fades and leaves lacing down the side of the glass. Great complexity, with sweet dark roast, coffee and chocolate, bitter hops, and a slightly sour undertown, with a chocolate and bitter finish. Kind of dry tannic mouthfeel and an alcohol warmth. Celebrator is a more striking doppelbock, but this is easier to drink.

Bottled. 17.02.09. Beer is clear, very dark warm brown with a large, off-white, frothy, diminishing head.
Initial aroma impression is richly malty with moderate notes of toasted bread crust, caramel; Hoppy with a light-to-moderate note of lemon zest; Light notes of dried current, spicy alcohol.
The flavor is lightly sweet, moderately bitter, trace-to-lightly acidic with a long, light-to-moderately bitter, lightly sweet, lightly acidic finish.
The body is medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.
Minimal and solid.

Thanks to rastacouere. This is a dark mohagany brew, little or no head at all.Nose is nice and malty with almost a toffee and "hidden" fruiiness.Malty at first thenbefore it gets to sweet it becomes a little roasted affair. It is a little thin but a nice brew.

like assam tea - big, dark, strong and pungent. but whereas im a big assam tea fan, i dont really dig many big sweet bocks. flavours i got were milo, bovril, black banana and golden syrup - altogether pretty sickly and not my cup of tea. rer8: interesting sherbet and ovaltine fluffiness at first, like rochefort 8, then overtaken by the soysauce and heavy sugar. they give the OG of this as 1078 by my calculations that gives an FG of around 1025 - and you can taste it! ukkk just too sweet for me i'm afraid. rer8 again: i cannot believe no other rater here tasted this as sweet. it is massively sweet. not confected, definitely quality malt sweetness, but ENORmous amounts of it. it makes me want to gag. how can their pils be so dry and this be soooo sweet?

Deep ruby/crimson brown. Thin foam, light brown head. Heath bar nose, chocolate covered toffee. This is very nice. Raisons, chewy delicious malt, dark caramel, chocolate, woody, cola, firm textured body, finishing with a subtle hop presence. A very delicious doppel, one of the best i've had to date.
