Mar 17, 2005 Bottled. Deep brown color with a reddish hue. Tan head. Chocolate and coffee aromas. Flavors of dark chocolate, toffee and plums. Port wine aftertaste that lingers just a bit. Very drinkable.

Aug 30, 2009 Chestnut brown color with an off-white head. Aroma of raisins, caramel, and molasses. Chocolate, dark fruit, molasses, and some bourbon on the taste buds. Velvety texture. Lacing clings to the side of the glass. This is a great beer.

Aug 31, 2004 Very strong malt fruit aroma. Nearly brought tears to my eyes. Black colour with good head and lacing. Bitter malt burnt flavour. Very full beer. Big palate.

Dec 7, 2004 500ml brown bottle. Very dark pour - mahognay coloured brew with a superb 2 finger tan head. Chocolate aroma. Nice dark malt flavours,some fruitiness, pleasant roasted malts, cocoa, a bit bittersweet. Lighter in body than I expected and also alcohol stays well hidden. A smooth doppelbock.

Sep 14, 2006 Wow, there is the hugest nutty and malty aroma with this fucker. Mega dark brown color but ruby in the light. Flavor is very full and rich. Big nuts and dark fruit. a lingering aftertaste of smoke and chocolate. Body is somewhat limp. A surprisingly good beer, especially for a style I tend to avoid. Not really something I’d drink with any frequency though. But one of the best of the style. good for desserts.

May 28, 2008 Wow! Looks good! Seemly dark brown body, stable, foamy beige head. Complex aroma of toffe, some chocolate and roasted grains. Rich flavour contains coffee, nuts, some spicey fruit taste, roasted malt. Smooth mouthfeel, well hidden sweety alcohol warms me up. Fine, good, please give me some more!

Jun 29, 2003 Full ruddy brown liquid with a nice head. Good fruit and malt aroma. Nice texture, full round malty sweet flavor. Good finish. Wonderful beer.

Jul 2, 2004 Dark toffee color, little head. Aroma: prunes, dates, brown sugar, grapes, fruitcake, chocolate. Taste like chocolate and grapes, wtf? That’s bizarre! Cinnamon muffins! Not that sweet. Bit thin. Bready full finish. Good but not a keeper.
