The aroma was very sweet...malt, toffee, and alcohol. The flavor was earthy with a dominant malty character and an alcoholic finish. I actually prefer this to Celebrator. Great experience. | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Sep 13, 2008 Bottle. Heavy malty smell, a little bit like a soy sauce and a little bit of alcohol. A small light brown fizzy head which is fast and fully diminishing. The body is dark red. Light sweet and moderate bitter with a medium duration. The body is medium with an oily texture and a rather flat carbonation. weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA

Appears a dark brown with a red hue and a 2 finger tan head that slowly fades out. Scattered lace is left around the glass.
Smell is of vanilla, caramel, cocoa, and malty syrup.
Taste is of the same aromas.
Mouthfeel is slightly thin in a medium bodied brew featuring the cocoa, caramel with a sweetness up front. rosenbergh (933), Helsinki, Finland

Dark reddish brown colour with big light tan head.
Roasted malty aroma with caramel, sugar, nuts, raisins, biscuit, oatmeal and hints of hops. Flavour is slightly more straight forward with roasted malt, burned sugar, alcohol, bitter hops and nuts. Excellent complex brew. I like it! hennes (932), Fountain, Michigan, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 25, 2003 Wasn't I due for a rave? This one is so good I'll (temporarily at least) switch my allegiance from the stouties to the bock posse. To begin with this thing looks and smells beautiful - it rolls out a huge shiny satiny darkness with embered tones and is redolent with rich shoe polish and molasses, some whiskeylike edges. Not quite so gorgeous in flavor, some lingering sours there, but mostly beautiful - dark sugars (molasses and maple, anise, a bittergrit nutmeggy edge to close. This beer would likely best be served in Rivendell or in tankards in Rohan's golden hall. npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 11, 2002 A wholly impressive bock, on a par with or surpassing Celebrator. Full, rich flavor that is sweet but not overly so, with some pleasant notes of plums and cherries. Just a slight bitterness to leave the palate clean and counterbalance the sweetness. beerledgend (919), Meadowbank Auckland, New Zealand
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 5, 2004 Dark brown in colour with big thick toffee coloured head. Could smell or taste anything of note was masked by the chemical smell of high abv.
Was an oily finish. smith4498 (910), Miami, Florida, USA

Flavor is caramel, brown sugar, coffee, roasted malts and slight hops in the finish. Medium to full body with minimal carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. Very smooth and delicious. I would have this again.
