The looks is almost champagne like but obviously a lot darker. The nose consists of chocolate, chocolate raisin, malts, toffee and caramel. The taste has toffee and caramel with abundance. There is less of a wine mouthfeel and more of a Rollos candy mouthfeel with this. I dig the wine feel a little bit more, but this is still a wonderful beer that I will enjoy many times. Really impressive and priced very well too. liinis (721), Helsinki, Finland

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 27, 2005 Couleur brune foncée, reflets rouges, mousse beige pleinement diminuante, aucun dégagement gazeux actif lors du service.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2004 A little too syrupy and sweet for my taste, and the balancing bitterness seemed mostly due to its alcohol content -- by the way, my bottle said this was 6.9%. That said, it’s quite dark, rich, and tasty, I just wish the carbonation would last a bit longer. Very malty with hints of cocoa, coffee and toffee. HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 13, 2004 Dark brown with a light brown head. Very sweet smelling with hints of leather, roasted grain, caramel, and a little smoke; in a word: complex. Flavor is surprising vinous with hints of smoked and roasted malt. Thin enough to be very easy to drink, but not so thin to detract. wnp22 (682), Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, Canada

Deep ruby when held up to the light. Thin off-white coloured head, but lasting. Alcohol on ratebeer says 7.2%, the listing on the back of the bottle is 6.9%. Aroma is slightly sour, with a hint of malt and very very subtle sweetness. Flavour is of burnt caramel. Deep malt flavour with a slightly tart finish. MrChopin (681), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2008 The scent is strong and balanced with sweet fruit, dark roasts, chocolate, and oat. A dark amber-brown with off-white head, long-lasting. A slight banana and sweet yeast flavor coupled with a taste that follows the nose: fruits, roasts, and slight chocolate. Complex and delicious, superbly drinkable, and also cheap. Great beer.
