| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 30, 2006 Bottled. Clear, dark brown with reddish notes. Nice tan head. Mild aromas of coffee, chokolate, dried fruits, licorice and roastiness. Maybe some beef stock too. Wonderful sweet malty flavor with the aroma-elements, alcohol and hops. Full, sweet body with a pleasant fizzyness. Long sweet, lightly hoppy finish. Surely a warming beer, but the aromas could be a bit more pronounced. Pity it costs 5.5€ here in Norway, but I was lucky and got it in a trade with MiP. (060130) JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 19, 2006 500 ml bottle. Dark brown beer with a thin white head. Sweet toasted malt aroma, light nuttiness and more sweet, dark malts. Flavour is sweet and chocolatey, with nuttiness and strong toasty flavour being the most apparent. Light noble hops help dry out the sweetness. Well balanced, warming and refreshing at the same time. Lingering toast and cocoa in the finish with a hint of noble hop flavour. Tasty brew. ¾ (5009), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Brown and just a little murky, but it’s hard to tell. Sweet maple and tobacco nose, with a creamy and light but frothy texture. Slightly smoky and toasty, sweet overall with flavors of maple, a little hint of meaty bacon and toasted bread crust. Quite good, overall on the sweet side, but really this is what you want with doppelbock. Cornfield (4975), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 3, 2004 I saw this pour out the bottle a thick, dark brown color, but when it hit the glass it turned black with a dark brown head that soon vanished. The aroma is rich, sweet and malty. The taste is of chocolates and caramel and burnt malt and a dab of fruits. A very thick and smooth, tasty drink JPDIPSO (4935), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 5, 2002 The beers from this brewery are just too smooth. Almost to much so, is that makes any sense. They seem to slide by so quickly that some of there essence is lost. Some great malt complexity hidden in this one. jbrus (4903), Delft, Netherlands
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jun 5, 2005 Bottled. Strong coffee and chocolat aroma. Dark brown color, light brown head, fair lace. Light sweet, chocolat, light roasted, coffee in the finish, short fruity moment, sugary ending, not very full bodied. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 11, 2006 Bottle: Pellucid tawny cherry brown color, thin head and light lacing. Nose of sweet malty goodness, fig, plum, fruit. The flavor is chewy, sweet, balanced, very nice doppel. On the likes of Celebrator but with a denser body and less sweetness. Tangy alcohol, good. Jesus, almost a millenium to perfect and it’s still not that great. Well, it is awesome, but not perfect or world class.
