Very deep mahogany color with a small off white head. Sweet malt/molasses aroma. Starts with more sweet molasses flavor. Dark fruits and then roasted chocolate flavors. Slight bitter chocolate finish. Great beer from an historic brewery.

Bottle, from the Dodgy Deli on Cowley Road in Oxford. Beautiful brown pour, big, soft layer of light caramel foam. Sturdy, rustic bread aroma, clean and inviting. More dark bread flavor, with a lovely milk chocolate undercurrent that continues to build through the glass. Soft, full-leaning palate, just enough carbonation to keep it bright. Deeply satisfying in it’s simplicity. A final note: what’s with the bloke on the label?

Simply excellent! Dark prune-like pour with nice caramello head. Lots of sugar, roasted malts, licorice, cream, some coffee, and dark over-ripe fruits. Thickened with heavy malts leaves it chewy and delicious!.

Purchased from Randalls in Fairview Heights, IL. Poured nice, deep mahogany, with a tan head that closews into nice lacing. Aroma typical of dunkels, sweet, bready. Taste was fantastic. much smoother than my favorite Celebrator. Coffee, chocolate, with a hint of molasses. Mouthfeel was perfect. So good, I;m going back tomorrow for some stock.

Outstanding doppelbock. Rich malty nose with some molasses. Dark ruby with good head. Full bodied and a long lasting finish. Slightly sweet, but just enough for a real bock. A bit alcohol is evident in the end, but it is by no way overdone. Quite fruity finish.

Deep and satisfying. It has a lovely floral head, that belies it deep malty nature as it slides down the back of the tongue

Pours a deep brown with a nice head and plenty of lace. The aroma is apply with mild chocolate notes and some grassy and hay notes are a surprise but work well in the mix. The flavor is chocolate, cider, some burnt notes, plenty of bitterness, and some raisin and plum notes. The caramel sweetness is very well under control. The mouthful is bubbly but very full. This is exceptional.

Poured dark red with beige hilly head. Heavy sweet malt aroma with fruits and nuts. Rich taste of fruits, malts, and honey, much like the aroma. Smooth and full bodied, great.
