Pours a deep mahogany colour with a beautiful thick brownish head. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Chewy thick body. Flavour is mostly of roasted malt and burnt caramel. Godd bitterness to finish. This is one fine doppelbock!

Super malty toffee nose, incredible clear and clean dark ruby colour. Dark foaming head. Rich malty with overtones of nearly burnt toffee and a hint of fruit. Hides the spiritousness very well. Nicely chewy but leaves me wanting another one. My thanks to kook for getting this to me.

(Bottled, 6.9% ABV, enjoyed straight from the fridge after a 90+ minute walk at -7 C outside) Very dark, reddish brown color. Large, tanned, lasting head. Extremely malty, sweetish and syrupy aroma with hops also present. Very filling, very full-bodied palate with roasted coffee and chocolate in the flavor. Alcohol warms you up nicely, but does not taste at all. Bittersweet, pleasant aftertaste that tickles in your tongue, and sticks into the mouth for quite a long time. An excellent beer for the long winter nights, afterski or whatever. [update Jan 31, 2004] It’s just as good - if not better, at room temperature! Simply the best beer I’ve had so far... [update Mar 4, 2004] Now @ 13,5°C - still one heck of a beer ... this one is pure gold! [update 14 Aug, 2004] although it’s very thick, it’s even refreshing after sauna! [another update Nov 5th, 2005] It’s amazing what one can do with just water, malt and hops! Definitely the best German beer around, and very close to being the best in the world. A true masterpiece in the art of brewing!

A true classic Doppelbock! great flavors of roasted barley, some hop character on the backside, hints of mollasses and prune but not overly sweet. You can blow through the first glass quickly but remember it IS 7.2%. On draught it is even a bit drier! Prosit!!

Pours dark brown with light brown head. Powerful malt aroma. Very pleasant taste and velvety mouthfeel. An excellent bock.

Wasn't I due for a rave? This one is so good I'll (temporarily at least) switch my allegiance from the stouties to the bock posse. To begin with this thing looks and smells beautiful - it rolls out a huge shiny satiny darkness with embered tones and is redolent with rich shoe polish and molasses, some whiskeylike edges. Not quite so gorgeous in flavor, some lingering sours there, but mostly beautiful - dark sugars (molasses and maple, anise, a bittergrit nutmeggy edge to close. This beer would likely best be served in Rivendell or in tankards in Rohan's golden hall.

Rick brown color with a lighter colored brown, big bubbled head. Aroma is mostly burnt caramel and chocolate. Taste is smokey with a richer amount of caramel than the aroma. This is one fucking great beer. I like that there’s not a sickeningly sweet amount of sugar in this. The mouthfeel and body are just perfect. Nice dryness and an almost charcoal taste, like ashed paper instead of a charcoal fire. Maybe burnt marshmallows and chocolate. Gimme s’more!
