Aroma of walnuts and almonds. Chalky body with lots of nuts and sweet malt. Plenty of Noble hops keeps the sweetness balanced out. Very nice. cquiroga (370), Sylmar, California, USA

Pours a dark, bark-colored brown. Dense and creamy head, lingering in a gentle sheath. Lacing is quite good, perhaps a bit fast and not that sticky. Aroma of rich autumnal malt, some dark and pale malts, some shades of fruit, raisins, some wood and a light earthy spice. Rich, earthy matls and dark bread with subtle yeast flavors. Edge of sweetness and a veil of smoke or roast, some apple, a bit of tobacco. I wish it gave a little bit more. Body is very nice, medium-full and gentle, complex but very drinkable. Finish is long and lightly sweet and earthy, very smooth and with subtle dark honey flavors and a touch of acidity. Sort of grows with time after you swallow it-- very good. This beer’s no Celebrator, but it’s pretty damn good-- lighter and more refreshing. Reminds me of early autumn or early spring. Would be great with a roast, or with applewood bacon. Gotta love the doppelbocks with your pork-eatin’ moods. WISEGUY572 (1247), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2005 Clear and dark, with reddish overtones that become more visible as the amount of beer in the glass diminishes, with a huge coffee colored head that fades and leaves lacing down the side of the glass. Great complexity, with sweet dark roast, coffee and chocolate, bitter hops, and a slightly sour undertown, with a chocolate and bitter finish. Kind of dry tannic mouthfeel and an alcohol warmth. Celebrator is a more striking doppelbock, but this is easier to drink. Cartoonkhaki (1150), Brantford, Ontario, Canada

Very impressive. I hope to sample this again. It is a very fine beer. I am very pleased!! WabashMan (817), Noblesville, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 1, 2008 I saw this fine brew on the list of a beer festival about five years ago and quickly put it on my "to sample" list. But when I approached the appropriate table, the worker insisted that it wasn’t one of the beers at that booth. I never did find it.
So imagine my pleasure when I finally saw this, in bottle, at a local store...after five long years and with a name that still came easily to mind, making it instantly recognizable. To build up such hopes...well, it can lead to disappointment. But not this time.
This nice doppelbock pours a dark, burgundy tinged brown, with a large, light tan head. Nose is a nice interplay of sweetness from rich, dark fruits, roast and chocolate, and malt, of course. Flavor is much the same, with the roast and dark fruit flavors dominating, but very well rounded overall. Really, a lovely beer, and one that I’m happy to have found nearby (and at what I think is a pretty good price!). Well worth the wait! Boystout (900), Chisinau, Moldova

Pours a gloomy crimson black body and a towering tan head. The beer is nearly room temperature at this point…. The aroma and flavor are heavy with molasses, dates, raisins, and plums… dark pitted fruits rolled through molasses and peppered with spicy tobacco shavings. Suggestions of chocolate covered cherries, kilned malts, the bready smokiness of baked pumpernickel, toffee, brown sugar, coffee with sweetened cream…. A delectable treat fit for a brisk Autumn’s evening… and although the leaves are turning, it still feels like summer here in Florida... Gunny (41), Dundas, Ontario, Canada

Vinous but subdued nose of ripe plum, apricot and date with some latent chocolate. Flavours of ripe tree fruit and chocolate. The mouth is left well coated with sweet malt accompanied by a pleasant saltiness.
