Medium-sized beige fine-laced head with some larger bubbles. Strong distinct rich malty aroma. Toffee and raspberry notes. Hints of chocolate and raisins. Prickly sensation on the tongue. Licorice flavours balanced by smooth hop bitterness and ammonia. Very rich and smooth. Full-bodied, but far from cloying in any way. The soft hop bitterness hides much of the malty sweetness. Very drinkable. A delicious beer. asheft (1438), Marburg, Germany
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 26, 2004 Almost black, clear orange-red with a yellow beige icing on top. Complex aroma: meaty, salty, noble hops, a little roasty. Flavour was smoky and sweet with a barleywine malt spiciness and an obvious alcohol flavour. A moderate amount of bitterness and roastiness. Full bodied and warming. I enjoyed this beer, but it was after a full meal and this drink is a meal in itself! xenthem0nk (101), Oregon, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 7, 2007 Poured from a bottle. Lots of malt, cherries, nuts, banana bread in the nose. Didn’t expect so much fruit. Taste is a bit less eventful. Lots of bready bisquits, malts, maple. Syrupy mouthfeel, bit of a alchohol sting. I’ll stick with Celebrator. oh6gdx (9065), Vasa, Finland

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 4, 2005 (500 ml bottle from http://hitimewine.com, marked "08.01.02 L") Body is cola-colored, head is light tan. Nose is prunes, raisins, brown sugar, malt. Some lacing. Mouthfeel smooth, a little dry. Flavor: seems fairly bitter at first, then brown sugar sweetness starts to kick in about halfway into bottle. Not quite as wonderfully complex as some of the other doppels I’ve had IMHO, but still certainly very good. Alcohol very well hidden also. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA

Poured brown with a tall creamy off-white head that had a thin layer lasting and good lace. Aromas of wheat, cereal, toasted malts, and a light fruit background. Awesome fruit and malt mix in the flavor. Medium to full body, creamy smooth, sweet throughout. A very nice Bock.
