pours deep mahogany. aroma strong raisin/plum caramel, touches of chocolate, toffee, floral notes, and alcohol. taste is rich raisin caramel and toffee, it has a little cocoa and coffee roastiness. finishes with a sort of roasty nut dryness. this is a wonderful doppelbock, definitely one of the best ive had.

500ml bottle at Microbar, Clapham, 14th Jan 08. Looks great in the glass - deep ruby red. Very malty aroma but thankfully the flavour is a smooth mellow chocolate taste with a nice long finish.

Somewhat sweet for a bock, still a very good tasting with the aforementioned sugars and a touch of porter coffee smokiness.

Pours a beautiful near-black amber with a thin pale tan head with good retention. Aroma is delicious red apples abd sweet granola. What flavour, though... wow. Wonderful sweet yeast breadiness... I’m really digging that. I’m having a tough time describing the flavours... I can imagine a nuttiness, overripe to rotten fruit (I’m talking brown, mushy peach) and maple-baked beans. Am I crazy? In short, rich dark and velvety. Body is slightly undercarbonated but oh so creamy and delicious. What a tasty, tasty beer. Thank you Robinvboyer for the trade!!!

500ml bottle. BB 30 06 09. Deep bronze body with ruby highlights. Thick tan head sits atop, leaving a spiderweb of lace in its wake. Oxidised malt aroma, but not in a bad way. Toffee, mollasses, burnt nuts, cocoa, dried fruit, spice, over-cooked meat...if that makes sense! Richly textured body, creamy carbonation, bit of dryness toward the finish yet a sweetness still remains. The beer really opens up especially on the body. Plenty of big rich malt characters of toffee, chocolate and nut, yet nothing remotely roasty. Going further are complex notes of raisin, sultana, prune, smoke, wood, earthy spice, bread, subtle herbs. Finishes dry, with a slightly odd bitterness and lingering note of cocoa. Yum, I do love a good bock. Such a simple and easy drinking beer on the surface, yet complexities seem to form on their own accord amongst the rich malt and alcohol. Lovely.

(3/7/08) Bottle from a trade with Koelschtrinker drank in my hostel room in Ghent. Dark brown with a big beige, rather quickly-diminishing, head. Aroma with lots of malt, notes of roastiness, some bread, caramel and maybe a bit of licorice. Malty, dark bready flavor, with caramel and hints of chocolate. Medium to full body with a soft velvety mouthfeel. Lovely!

500 mL bottle. Pours a deep reddish-brown with a moderate tan hear. Rich aroma of sweet malts and dark fruit. Flavour is mildly sweet and a tad spicy, very nice. Finish is nice and subtle. Overall a great beer.

Pour is dark brown with a light tan fizzy head. Aroma is malty with sweet butter, brown sugar, and dark fruit. Flavor is sweet roasted malt, light chocolate, biscuits, and goodness. Very smooth carbonation. I also got a bit of toffee characters throughout the brew. Very solid beer. Would buy again.
