Sweet aroma, lots of caramel and bready. Again, sweet caramel dominates the body, bready, tasty. Even with all that sweetness, definitely easy to drink. Top notch. pivo (2537), Germany

Starts sweet and ends with a slight dry, gritty finish. Some spices (nutmeg) in the middle. A full taste that kept getting better through the glass. Clean palate and an impeccable balance. Some notes of caramel and roasted malts. Finish is slightly sweet. A very pleasant and somewhat heavy brew. Good balance. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA

Nose of sweet malty goodness, fig, plum, fruit. The flavor is chewy, sweet, balanced, very nice doppel. On the likes of Celebrator but with a denser body and less sweetness. Tangy alcohol, good. Jesus, almost a millenium to perfect and it’s still not that great. Well, it is awesome, but not perfect or world class. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 6, 2006 This is a wonderful doppelbock, that really shows off the fact that these do not have to be sickenly sweet in style. This has a nice rich, and medium bodied, flavor that is somewhat dry on the palate. Granted it is bittersweet, but not sweet to the point of irritation. Caramel maltiness, with an even amount of roastiness, somewhat earthy, but very clean, with a lingering finish of black tea and cooked grains. ¾ (5009), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Brown and just a little murky, but it’s hard to tell. Sweet maple and tobacco nose, with a creamy and light but frothy texture. Slightly smoky and toasty, sweet overall with flavors of maple, a little hint of meaty bacon and toasted bread crust. Quite good, overall on the sweet side, but really this is what you want with doppelbock. SG (456), San Clemente, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 12, 2003 Very dark brown and slightly red in color. Strong caramel and licorice flavors among others. Complex and excellent. Sweet with a mellow, lingering flavor of roasted malts. Alcohol is hidden well. Smoother than I first imagined. A great doppelbock
