muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jun 11, 2006 750 ml bottle, 2003 vintage, from Table and Vine in Northampton, MA (early 2004), sampled starting at fridge temperature in a Lindemans flute. No pop to the cork and very little head forming atop the dark amber-gold, mostly still body....sweet, intense apple aroma with a nice hint of tartness, a touch of oak and a bit of the farm....perhaps a touch of brettanomyces as well?....fairly dry, tart and mineralic body, somewhat thin and watery but full of juice, becoming bitter and a bit chalky to finish.....tannic qualities evident as well, this is an interesting mix of sweet juiciness and fairly intense funk/vinous qualities that just needs a bit more depth and body and perhaps more than the faint hint it offers of carbonation. Could well be past its prime....I’m definitely intrigued to try a fresher bottle.
