Excellent lacing. Aroma is chocolate, black cherries, raisins, alcohol, vanilla extract. But overall the aroma is fairly muted. Taste is very sweet- almost like Dr. Pepper or black cherry soda. Alcohol is nicely hidden. Light to medium bodied with some good carbonation. Aftertaste is sweet, chocolaty, and short lasting. Very nice and unique from the traditional dubbel. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 2, 2008 Definitely one of my favorite trappist beers and one of my favorites in general. Dark, fruity, tremendously smooth, and a great finish...this beer is worthy of further recommendation. PaulHegedus (464), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada

Pours dark reddish brown with a foaming, huge, long lasting head that settles into a short creamy coffee-like foam. The aroma has a lot of cherry, some alcohol, raisin, lighter milk chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium, with some tail end wateriness that is unfortunate. I taste chocolate, dark cherry, a hint of the raisin from the aroma. The alcohol seems well masked. Pours a dark caramel colour and that’s all I remember because I had a lot to drink that day. I drank this out of a trappist glass. jfb (413), Weihenstephan, Germany
