RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Mar 22, 2008 Dours dark brown with a frothy white head that disappears into a ring. Aroma of dark fruits, red wine, and spices. Initial tatse of dark fruits, candied malts and wine. Finishes very tart and slightly bitter. . vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA Mar 22, 2008 Date stamp of 18/12/08. The beer pours a dark brown color, reminiscent of root beer, with a frothy light brown head. The head soon drops leaving behind a thin ring. The aroma is very subtle and we struggled to come up with specifics. It’s mostly lightly sweet malt, with some faint dark fruit and a mild spice note. The taste is as easy on the palate as the aroma was on the nose. Malt and caramelized brown sugar come to mind. There’s a hint of cinnamon noted. The finish is dry and mildly bitter, with a lot of carbonation felt on the tongue. Plimmer (251), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 21, 2008 Bottle 75 cl. Hazy brown body with a large dense beige head. Fruity notes in the nose. Sweet malt dominates the flavour and aftertaste. joshcook83 (8), Atlanta, Georgia, USA does not count Mar 18, 2008 Didn’t get much in the way of aroma, but I think I may have served it a bit too cold. This is a very nice trappist dubbel. I’ll be trying it again. chaz2171 (11), USA Mar 17, 2008 This is a very good beer that is very refreshing and full. i think this my be a new favorite FishManLA (284), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA Mar 16, 2008 Nose of plumbs and prunes. A dark brown color with a full tan head that dissipates fairly quickly. Taste follows the nose with fruitness as well as a distinct carmel taste and an herbiness.
Mouthfeel is somewhat syrupey which lowered my rating a bit. kiefdog (1534), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 16, 2008 33cl bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (FL). Pours a dark chocolate brown with a thin tan head. In the nose, the beer smells slightly sweet, caramel, hints of toffee, inviting aroma. Flavor: sweet, malty, smooth, hints of spices and herbs with a very slight sour/sweet finish. Tastes faintly of barley on subsequent sips. Nice dubbel. Ober (1158), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Mar 12, 2008 I think one of the well-known trappist beers in the Netherlands. It’s maybe the standard for the most people, if they think how a trappist has to be. Particular for those who aren’t familiar with beers.
It’s red/brown colored beer, with a large creamy dark beige foamy head. An aroma which begins a little sweet, fruits, then caramel and a litlle spicy. The taste is complex, a little roasted malts, also some dark fruit, with caramel and at the end some bitternes. In my opion a very good beer.
