Ober (1161), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Mar 12, 2008 I think one of the well-known trappist beers in the Netherlands. It’s maybe the standard for the most people, if they think how a trappist has to be. Particular for those who aren’t familiar with beers.
It’s red/brown colored beer, with a large creamy dark beige foamy head. An aroma which begins a little sweet, fruits, then caramel and a litlle spicy. The taste is complex, a little roasted malts, also some dark fruit, with caramel and at the end some bitternes. In my opion a very good beer. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 12, 2008 3/5/08 - Bottle at Idle Rich Pub in Dallas. ours brown w/ amber hues. Small, riming, beige head. Nose is sweet caramel and toffee, a touch of chocolate. Spicy with mild fruit, apple and pear. Alcohol, brown sugar, caramel, chocolate, some good hop bite and a dry finish. Good stuff. Tasty brew. Bhops (329), Dallas, Texas, USA Mar 8, 2008 Updated: May 9, 2008One of my favorite beers...though maybe not the very best of its type. malty, fruity, complex and wonderful armando629 (954), Budapest, Hungary Mar 5, 2008 What a mercy! I can drink a bottle WestmalleDubbel if i want.
Beautiful appearance with a reddish color and a stable-foamy lacing and beige head. The aroma is complex, spicey. Roasted malt, fruits and caramel. In the taste dominates the roasted malt with nice fruity tastes(raisins), chocolate and the hidden alcohol. In the aftertaste the caramel and roasted malt flavour are together. I like the trappist monks and their beers:) Thank you, dear monks! judasbeer (230), Budapest, Hungary Feb 29, 2008 Very complex fruity aroma. Very impressive appearance with huge head and reddish black color.
The body is too watery for an abbey dubbel, and a the flavor is more like a dark lager. You can taste the spicy hops in the aftertaste very well. Overally a very crisp and dry kinda beer. A nice dubbel but a little bit lighter that i expected. TaxiDriver (908), Stadland, Germany Feb 27, 2008 Bottle. Heavy malty, dark bread, sweet, light alcoholic, port wine, light yeasty. Average brown creamy head, black body. Moderate sweet start and finish, long duration, silky mouth feel. Creamy texture, medium body, lively carbonation. Really a great great beer! ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Feb 26, 2008 Aroma has dull fruity notes including strawberry; also a bit dirty. Taste is a bit grassy. Nice silky yet crisp mouthfeel, though kinda watery. Finishes pretty dry and crisp. hoplover406 (204), Crofton, Maryland, USA Feb 22, 2008 Updated: Mar 27, 2008Bottle, pours deep dark brown mahogany with fine sediment. thick off-white head. I didn’t notice anything unusual in the aroma, typical dark fruits. The initial taste is crisp with a hint of green apple. Not what you would expect from such a dark beer. Dubbels can sometimes be misleading in that way. As I get into this beer i’m slightly disappointed with the lack of complex flavors and the dull, watery mouthfeel. This is a decent, subtle Dubbel.
