Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Dec 27, 2007 330ml bottle from BevMo Carmel Mountain. This Trappist brew poured a very hazy coffee brown with a slight reddish tint. Head was light tan, thin, and creamy.....some lacing. Aroma was of toffee, raisins, and other dark fruits. As the beer sat, cherry aroma’s became more predominant. Medium in body and some what sweet. Another great brew from the Monks! tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Dec 25, 2007 33cl bottle. Pours reddish brown with a thick and creamy brown/white head. Aroma of brown sugar, slightly sour and tart, a good amount of dark fruity malt. Flavor has lots of yeasty dryness backed by a requisite amount of fruitiness. High yeast presence. Grassy and earthy hops. Creamy with lively carbonation leading to a long, dry finish. Man... I try really hard, but Dubbels just aren’t my cup of tea. badbeer (432), Iowa, USA Dec 23, 2007 Served in a chalice. Beer poured a dark brown with a nice creamy head. Plenty of carbonation, but not over carbonated. Malty taste with very little hop bitterness, little bit of an alcohol kick at the end. I would love to drink more than one, but with the price and alcohol content this may not be one of my better ideas. Good beer to drink, especially if you find a decent price on it. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Dec 21, 2007 330 ml. bottle. Clear brown with a nice tan head, good lace. Dark fruity esters, brown sugar, and some spiciness in the aroma. Smooth, medium body, lightly effervescent, dry, clean palate. Malty sweetness up front, quickly followed by a tangy bitterness which really balnces this nicely. Not at all sweet in the finish. timfoolery (482), California, USA Dec 16, 2007 This trappist poured with frothy head and approached qualities of the better trappist dubbels I’ve had. The only difference was the Westmalle had a distinct bitter taste and aftertaste that the others don’t. I assumed this was inadvertant, so it knocked the score down. Still, this brew is excellent in flavor and richness for the genre. Unfortunately, it’s the same price as it’s best competitors @ $5.49 a bottle. DTM (541), Winters, California, USA Dec 16, 2007 Pours a dark brown. Farily smooth, but a little bit of bitterness throughout the beer. Chocolate and slighty fruity in flavor. Got a little better as it warmed up just a little bit. A very good beer, but there are better beers out there of this type. weaselkenievil (738), Cheshire, England Dec 11, 2007 Bottle from me noodle sister. The Tripel had long been a real favourite of mine, had the dubbel a couple of times before. Nice but not being a huge fan of dubbel’s, there are others I would prefer to drink if I had the choice. Without choice (like being in Bollington or some similar type hole) you’d rob a bottle of this when they aren’t looking. A little bit watery for my preference in dubbel’s, a little bit dissapointed but I did have high hopes. Still tasty. And it was my birthday. heavy (815), Split, Croatia Dec 10, 2007 08/12 0.33 l bottle at Scout Irish Pub in Samobor. Poured reddish brown body with medium ebony head. Sourish malty aroma of dark fruits, specially raspberry and plums. Nice. Bittersweet flavor, quite fruity and yeasty with caramel following the aroma, but it was quite watery, which ruins also the finish which was short, but still, quite nice fruity. I didn’t reach expectations, which were high for this one, as their Tripel was fantastic when I had it.
