Westmalle Dubbel

Poured into wide-flaring beer glass. Ruddy brown color, smallish head but small bubbles remain afloat long after. Had with an almond custard apple pie. First dubbel experience - nutty caramel aroma. Sweet floral essence as well it seems. Medium body with plenty of malt, not succulent or velvety though. Finish with moderate bitterness. Enjoyable but not a seminal beer moment for me.

12 oz. bottle Faint nutty and anise aroma. Small foamy head disipates quickly. Opaque, murky hazelnut brown color. Smooth at first with lots of bubbles, medium body and a kick on the back of the tongue and going down. Tastes very dry with nuts, dried apricot and tons of pepper. Finishes with a pervasive unpleasant bitterness.

One of the best, if not the best, dubbels out there. Creamy and smooth, yet fully robust and hearty at the same time. Moderate alcohol level works quite well with the dark malty tastes and aromas. Nutty, with a fruity raisin-like aftertaste. Minimal hops. A delicious Belgian ale.

Bottle. Pours into the Chimay glass a deep reddish brown with a thin and creamy looking tan head. Aroma is malty and yeasty like cobwebs and dust with faint fruit notes of apples and grapes. Flavor is moderately sweet and has a nice maltiness and doughiness. There is some fruits and acidity balanced here, mostly grape. Light spice, not strong at all. Carbonation is busy but very light, a little thick and cloying. Finish is lightly bitter with a noted alcohol presence. Very good, not as complex as some of the other belgians, but very drinkable.

Far be it from me to utter a negative word about the Abbey breweries. It’s brewed by monks, dammit, of course it’s good.

this is obviously a refined product and I did enjoy the aroma and appearance and even the taste to a certain extent. what it lacks for a beer its color is body. one could never say this beer is hearty or thick. this is perhaps the very best wine-cooler ever created... yes, its a bit too sweet for our taste

33cl Bottle from stystembolaget. Dark, murky brown with slight rosey tint. Big tan head that lasts til the end and laces the glass. Aroma is amazing - belgian yeast and tart fruit come rushing at you, followed by caramel and slight alcohol hanging back. Thick, full mouthfeel and medium carbonation coat your tongue. Flavor is sweet and malty, but bitterness perfectly controls things. more bitter in finish, but not out front. Hops become more pronounced as beer warms. One of my new favorite beers.
