SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Sep 13, 2007 33cl Bottle from stystembolaget. Dark, murky brown with slight rosey tint. Big tan head that lasts til the end and laces the glass. Aroma is amazing - belgian yeast and tart fruit come rushing at you, followed by caramel and slight alcohol hanging back. Thick, full mouthfeel and medium carbonation coat your tongue. Flavor is sweet and malty, but bitterness perfectly controls things. more bitter in finish, but not out front. Hops become more pronounced as beer warms. One of my new favorite beers. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 12, 2007 Pour: brown hazy amber. Head: creamy light beige. Aroma: dark fruit, Belgian smell, sweet. Flavor: sweet, hoppy, some floral, Belgian taste. Palate: very lively carbonation. Finish: not as long lasting as I’d have wanted it to be. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 11, 2007 Pours a deep murky brown with a tan creamy head. The aroma is sweet, definitely Belgian, alcohol shows through, some dark sugars and fruits. The flavor is sweet, crisp, slight alcohol, Belgian flavor, grapes. The palate is cool and crisp. A good Belgian, not up to par with a dubbel. DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel Sep 1, 2007 Bottle at some restaurant in Brussels. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel, spices and some dark fruits. Flavor is malty and fruity with caramel and some spices. Medium to full body. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Updated: Feb 12, 2008Date: 02/20/2001

rich sweet malt aroma with a touch of floral hops,
rich malt flavor, subtle hints of chocolate, dry, but not bitter, initially lots of carbonation to the point of distraction but settles down to a creamy milkshake

lots of ripe fruit in the initial aroma,
body still starts with a lot of carbonation,
very rich and complex dark malt flavor mixed with just the right amount of alcohol, fades as it warms

charcot25 (181), Cordova, Tennessee, USA Aug 30, 2007 Pours a dark reddish-brown with a lacy off-white head. Aroma of caramel, figs/raisons and roasted malt. Tastes a bit sweet but with a good backbone of hop bitterness and alcohol. Maybe a little bit of fusel bite as well. Not as hot as some of mine, though. These fusels have matured into flowerly, rose-like esters. Finishes dry and a note of cocoa and rum. Complex and enjoyable. Sassenach (59), USA Aug 30, 2007 Pours a dark cloudy caramel color, with minimum head that lasts for a bit. There are particles hanging around as well. Smells instantly of grape wine, but with raisin and sweet malt ribbons. Tastes of prune, slight coffee, and cream, with traces of vanilla - all somewhat weak - and a small molasses finish/aftertaste. Very light bodied with little carbonation.
I’d like to ad that towards the end of the glass, the particles keep a muddy stance and give a great ending full of wheat bread and cinnamon and raisin. theviolet (168), New York, New York, USA Aug 25, 2007 Deep fruity aroma. Dark malt. Absolutely beautiful appearance, dark reddish brown. Perfect head, creamy tan that stays well. Great flavor, not too strong, slight alcohol in the finish. Malt and fruit taste. Good lacing of the head. Nothing outstanding on the palate. Simple. Expensive, but I’d drink it again, great beer.
