Beerman6686 (1263), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 9, 2009 This poured a cloudy reddish brown color with an off white head. Aroma was sweet malts, fruity and spice as well. Flavor was mainly spices, a little sweet, alcohol came through a bit as well. Ok for the style. Gabler (86), , New York, USA Aug 4, 2009 Bottle. Poured rubyish brown with a tan head...very bubbly. Aroma was sweet malt, some spice. Flavor was the same, not overly sweet, just right, very well balanced. Bubbly mouthfeel, smooth finish. I think it’s a great example of the style. Solid all around. jtodd5dot1 (32), Marina, California, USA Aug 3, 2009 Overall a very good beer. When I first poured, I must not have been paying attention as I managed to fill the entire pint glass with foam. After figuring out how to pour, the color was an opaque chocolate brown. The head was a dark tan and lasted a while. kwik-lime (217), London, England Aug 2, 2009 Reddish dark brown with a good beige-ish head. Good rich flavour, nicely carbonated with a roasted, earthy malt flavour and hints of fruit and alcohol. Good stuff. Bejaaamin (110), London, Ontario, Canada Aug 1, 2009 Rich dark brown, large beige head. Bright fruits, peppery, nutty, caramel-candy nose. Dried fruit, malty, pepper flavours. Long finish makes me drink more. Another excellent beer. BeerViking (192), Brentford, Greater London, England Aug 1, 2009 Despite careful treatment, the bottled frothed right up on opening, fortunately we managed to rescue most of the contents! Aroma of malt, a bit of candy sugar, vinous with dark dried fruits. Light on the tongue at first, then a dry nutty taste comes through, with a hint of hoppiness. Warming hops and alcohol aftertaste. bobinlondon (786), Harrow, Greater London, England Jul 31, 2009 Bottle from a friend. Pours a rich dark brown color with a lively beige head.. Floral clover and watermelon aroma supported by mellow oaky malts. Crisp toasty malt flavor has a good yeast profile. Body is bready with a touch of rye. Excellent.
JanVittrup (138), København V, Denmark Jul 29, 2009 Muddy brown, retained head, fine homogenous bubbles.
Fantastic aroma. Fruity and hoppy (needle aroma).
Flavour is a bit disappointing. Very neutrally balanced.
Silky smooth. Not fresh and fizzy - which is a good thing here.
Very good, but the flavour disappointed.
Purchased in Barley Wine.
