bw1982 (69), , Arizona, USA Jul 28, 2009 12 oz bottle. Hazy dark brown color with a thick tan head. Aromas are weak, but there are some dark fruits along with some chocolate and spice. The mouthfeel is pretty close to perfect, well carbonated yet creamy. The flavors have some sweet flavors up front, sweet malts and raisin, with some good dryness at the end. dperrey (7), Durham, North Carolina, USA does not count Jul 27, 2009 07/24/09: 12 oz bottle. Poured into tulip glass, it is dark brown, slightly cloudy, with a thick creamy off-white head. Smells of fruit. Taste is also of fruit - raisins, malt, perhaps coffee? Medium body and low hops, well balanced and good feel in the mouth. A fine dubbel. jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Jul 25, 2009 Pours cloudy, brown with thick off white head. Aroma of dark fruits. Taste of cherries, raisins, and caramel. Huge malt backbone. Medium mouthfeel. Good beer. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA Jul 24, 2009 From a 330mL Bottle. Courtesy of oteyj. Mostly cloudy, ruddy, cedar bark brown colored body with a thick layer of fizzy cream head. Distinctive yeast profile that contains hints of toasted coconut and raisin esters along with a perfumey phenolic spice. Hints of chocolate fudge and prune. Medium bodied, heavily carbonated mouthfeel with a soft, almost creamy texture. Sweet malt flavors of raisins, toasted nuts, and cocoa up front on the palate, developing more of a tannic, prune skin dryness toward the finish. The yeast contributes a bright, white pepper quality toward the finish, enhancing the perception of dryness. Low levels of hop bitterness left lingering on the palate. A well deserved world classic. Thanks, James! syton98 (40), USA Jul 17, 2009 Pours dark with a nice creamy head that goes away after a little while. The aroma is a little spicy with dark fruit hints. The flavors were well balanced. A good dubbel. JanEric (167), Meppel, Netherlands Jul 9, 2009 Big dense creamy head when poured out. Soft armoa, somewhat spicey (pepper). Colour red-brown. Hints of caramel, coffee and walnuts, a bit of hops. Smooth long finish, a bit sweet but not widespread. Hopper (271), San Antonio, Texas, USA Jul 7, 2009 A dark brown beer with a small quickly disappearing head. The taste is dark fruit, almost like dark fermented fruit. You sure can taste the alcohol in this. kuphish (150), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jul 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours an average sized, frothy, off-white head. Amber-brown, murky body with chunky particulate. Malty aroma of fruit - fresh berries, pear, plum and cherry. Faint doughy yeast. Flavor is dominated by the malt profile - caramel and raisin. Yeast also makes its presence known - dough and some must. Fruity esters and light phenols of milled spice. Fairly light bodied with lively, prickly carbonation. Crisp finish with light, warming alcohol - avoids being boozy. Overall a fun, refreshing, delightful dubbel. I’ll be buying this again.
