Lots of carbonation when opened and first poured. Great lacing down the sides of the glass. Head sustained but got a good bit smaller. Aroma is very fruity, dark fruits, toffee, sweet and very nice. Flavor was very yeasty at first, kind of covered up the dark fruits. A bit of a roasted malt coming through as well. Some nuttiness coming in the flavor also. Very carbonated on the tongue. Really was looking for more in the flavor since I enjoyed the aroma so much. Still a very solid beer...just couldn’t rate the flavor as high as the aroma. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA

A huge sized head that was ivory in hue, foamy and fine-medium sized bubbles that were mostly lasting. The hue of this beer was reddish brown with a malty, sweet and fruity nose. The flavor was sweet, caramel and alcohol tasting with a smooth mouthfeel. This beer had good lacing to it. A worthwhile Abbey Dubbel and very recommended. Rich tongue fulfills more of my spicy and sweet desires with some cocoa and dried fruit. Finishes very well and leaves a pleasantly earthy taste in the mouth. Very good stuff here! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 12, 2009 Wonderful beer, with the kind of complexity you tend to forget with the more extreme stuff.
Very dark red, lowely glow through the darkenss.
Compact, Lot of dark berries. Cherries, prunes. Dryness from the hops, but they are not easy to distinguish. Dry finish.
Should appeal to most peaople, shoudl be available in every beer bar that is to be taken seriously. RichardGretton (3151), Leicestershire, England

The flavour is malty and slightly fruity. Overall a very pleasant, very nice beer. PorterPounder (3144), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Sweet malty aroma, hard to place my finger on what it reminds me of, sherry perhaps. Mouthfeel is just a tad too thin for the style and a bit too much carbonation. Flavor has some essences of sherry again, and not too much else - pretty one dimensional, but not bad. Perhaps a bit of Christmas spices. ogivlado (3082), Zagreb, Croatia

Looked a bit like a coke at first, but the frothy head lasted well. The taste was delightful: rich, warm, sweet and malty with an appealing bitterness at the end. Wish I had another bottle.
