Aroma of yeast, malts, dark ripe fruits, slight raisin, and a hint of caramel. Poured brown with a hint of amber in color and a large, foamy, fluffy, tan head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of yeast, caramel, malts, light dark ripe fruits, and some raisins. Medium body. Slightly tingly, medium-dry texture. Average carbonation. LIghtly sweet, caramel, and yeast finish is a bit sticky and a little dry. notalush (2661), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 20, 2003 Small, off-white head - dark amber/crimson color - nice clarity - highly vinous, with notes of chocolate, brown sugar, raisins - slight sweetness and substantial yeast presence in the finish - very subtle and enjoyable - one of the more subdued trappist ales I've had, which is actually a good thing in this case - medium bodied, yet heavy at the same time - a must try for belgian ale lovers. nick76 (2657), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 4, 2006 The aroma is dark fruit, raisins, malt, alcohol, sugar, and yeast. The appearance is dark brown purple with a nice foamy head. The flavor is fruity, sweet, salty, and bitter with some raisins and a little coffee as well. The palate is thin for an Abbey Dubbel. The finish is dry. Overall it’s a good beer but my expectations were higher. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA

Nose is lightly tinted with banana, slightly sour, hints of malt. Front is malt, the top light, the finish dry, nicely hopped, acidic with moderate carbonation, and hints of alcohol bitterness also noted. Aurelius (2648), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 16, 2004 Dark hazy toffee color, good yoked bottle, traditional label. Rich aroma, of yeast, dessert wine and fruit. Sweet, fizzy and tastes a bit like sweettarts candy. Some leather and spice. The finish and body were wierd -- fizzy, with riffs of aspirin bitterness, vanilla, sugar sweetness and molasses, but overall it was a little thin. Still, a quality beer.
