Aug 14, 2007 Cloudy, dark brown body with amber edges. Frothy off-white head that settles to a 1mm film. Beautiful, sudsy lacing. Aroma is a bit subdued, but I picked up caramel malts, figs, and candied sugar. Flavor was more of the same, with caramelized malts leading the charge and dark fruits following closely behind. Not overly complex, but well crafted in its simplicity. The smells and tastes really intensify as the beer warms. Medium body that is sweet but not overly cloying. Very smooth and easy to drink. Quality across the board, but nothing really outstanding.

May 7, 2003 Bottled. Large fluffy brown head, that settled down but persisted throughout. Dark crimson brown (red if you hold it to the sunlight) body. Sweet nutty tasting, nutmeg and banana. Smooth enough finish.

Oct 8, 2007 rated blind from "Better Know a Style: Abbey Dubbel" tasting. pours ruby with tan head. nose of licorice, nuts, dark fruits. flavor pretty alcoholy but not hot, grainy, tobacco. watery feel. under carbonated. this ended up being a big surpise that it was rated so low.

Mar 24, 2003 (33 cl bottle). Enormous lasting head, cloudy brown colour. Lovely aroma of oak, leather and spices. Well balanced spicy flavour, slightly bitter finish. Aftertaste could have lasted a bit longer, but this is still a thoroughly well made beer.

Sep 22, 2004 Poured ruby brown with thin but residual tan head...smells very bready and chewy with raisins and nutmeg and pepper...tastes quite sweet with alcohol being ever so subtle and complimenting the malty earth fruits beautifully...fantastic mouthfeel...felt like it stiffened in my mouth somehow...finish was dry and a little cocoa aftertaste...

May 12, 2003 Not difficult to get as other trappistes. Nice appearance, red and a big head. Good sweet and spicy aroma. Has a little fine laqurice in the flavor.
