Beautiful, sudsy lacing. Aroma is a bit subdued, but I picked up caramel malts, figs, and candied sugar. Flavor was more of the same, with caramelized malts leading the charge and dark fruits following closely behind. Not overly complex, but well crafted in its simplicity. The smells and tastes really intensify as the beer warms. Medium body that is sweet but not overly cloying. Very smooth and easy to drink. Quality across the board, but nothing really outstanding. Dark crimson brown (red if you hold it to the sunlight) body. Sweet nutty tasting, nutmeg and banana. Smooth enough finish. drewbeerme (2305), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 24, 2003 (33 cl bottle). Enormous lasting head, cloudy brown colour. Lovely aroma of oak, leather and spices. Well balanced spicy flavour, slightly bitter finish. Aftertaste could have lasted a bit longer, but this is still a thoroughly well made beer.
