Pours a cloudy, deep chestnut brown with a creamy off-white head that lingers fairly well. Complex aroma is yeast and brown sugar with hints of molasses, mocha and alcohol. Flavor is sweet with sour fruit notes, spice and hop bitterness in the finish and peppery aftertaste. Medium to full body with mild carbonation. Very nice ale. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 14, 2004 Gigantic tan head of small bubbles. Reduces to a nice cratered foam. Good carbonation. Slightly smokey, fruity aroma with cherries and raisins. Beautiful dark brown/mahagony. Excellent beer to look at. Slightly sweet flavor with plenty of malt, roasted grains and a note of alcohol. Nice warming as it goes down way to easy. Dry and clean finish. A top quality dubbel! Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 5, 2002 Tremendous. Similar in body to St. Feuillen; spritzy but still full enough to let the flavors shine through. And the flavors!...a little raisin, plum, tart cherries. Malty, yeasty (but not too much), just a great dubbel. Incredibly rocky, off-white head that lasts and lasts. rederic (1811), montréal, Quebec, Canada

The beer is rich medium-bodied with fruity flavors of dry fruits, raisins, figs, has good malty caracter of chocolate with a touch of porto in a dry finish. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2004 Bottle. Good sweet brown sugar nose. Good flavor up front-raisin, brown sugar, dried fruits. Finish is dirty and bitter. Reminds me of home brew brewed with liquid malt extract. The finish is just a bit too odd for me. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA
