Big tan head that lasts til the end and laces the glass. Aroma is amazing - belgian yeast and tart fruit come rushing at you, followed by caramel and slight alcohol hanging back. Thick, full mouthfeel and medium carbonation coat your tongue. Flavor is sweet and malty, but bitterness perfectly controls things. more bitter in finish, but not out front. Hops become more pronounced as beer warms. One of my new favorite beers. KyotoLefty (1465), Kyoto, Japan

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 24, 2002 While I did enjoy this one, it just wasn’t quite as good as I had hoped. The color was a bit light for me. I like a nice opaque, dark brown color. Too much light came through. The aroma was very nice. Apples, raisins, black currant, plum, and cherry. The flavor was a bit disappointing, though, as it didn’t really fit the aroma. Don’t get me wrong, this is a world class beer, but it just sort of didn’t live up to the expectations. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 23, 2006 Pours dark amber brown w/ a full spritzy froth. Aromas of candy fruit and malt. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. Complex flavors of dried stone fruit, brown sugar, fig, raisons, plums, and rock candy. Finishes w/ a nice bittering but remains fruity. Alcohol is noticeable. Overall: A very complex specimen worthy of any connoisseurs list. holdenn (1444), Chicago, Illinois, USA

rated blind from "Better Know a Style: Abbey Dubbel" tasting. Pours red brown with a beige ring. Fruity oxiditzed tobacco aromas. Watery thin and a low carbonation. Flavors of toffee, tobacco, red fruit, drying and watery. Maybe it was the overly warm temps but I wasn’t too much into this one. 8/3/6/2/11 = 3.0 robinvboyer (1442), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 8, 2005 Pours a hazy, browish ruby with a rocky, tan head that doesn’t last too long, but forms a little lace. Raisins and toast take up a lot of the fruity aroma with black currants and hops and some sweet malt. The flavour is quite alcoholic with fruity and woody undertones which give way to a lingering, buttery and nutty toffee. Medium bitterness that is not astringent, though threatens to be at times. Light body and significant carbonation and a very nice finish. Also, warming from the alcohol. adrian910ss (1435), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 26, 2007 Pours a reddish brown with a massive thick beige head. Complex aroma of dates, plums, prunes, sweet malts, banana, grapes and dough bread. Slightly carbonated taste of dark fruit, dough bread, yeast and malts. Not as good as some of the other higher rated belgiums.
