Beautiful appearance with a reddish color and a stable-foamy lacing and beige head. The aroma is complex, spicey. Roasted malt, fruits and caramel. In the taste dominates the roasted malt with nice fruity tastes(raisins), chocolate and the hidden alcohol. In the aftertaste the caramel and roasted malt flavour are together. I like the trappist monks and their beers:) Thank you, dear monks! jimel001 (34), Los Angeles, California, USA

Dark, fruity, tremendously smooth, and a great finish...this beer is worthy of further recommendation. aconley (9), Numazu, Japan does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 12, 2008 One of the most well balanced Belgium beers! Yet it has a rich complexity that comes through when this beer is served at the correct temperature. rampmaster (322), Alden, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 13, 2008 This is a wonderful dubbel that pours dark chocolate brown. The body is dark and hazy. The head is off white thick and bubbly, that makes for good lacing. Aromatic roasted malts and classic Belgian yeast fills the nose. Also there were light unripe or green banana and caramel notes. It tastes as good as it smells, malty and sweet, with hops being very low key. Molasses and malts, banana and caramel blend together to round out this smooth and silky ale. The body is full with soft carbonation and finishes dry, slightly bitter. gary07734 (406), Tyne & Wear, England

Hugely enojoyable trappist ale, very nice. REDBOSOX (70), Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, USA

Only six brewers in Belgium are allowed to use the name trappist. Westmalle is one of them. A trappist ale is one brewed by Belgian monks. This fantastic beer smells great, looks great, and tastes great! It blends fruits almost perfectly with the light chocolate and caramel flavors. It’s slightly fizzy yet very easy on the palate. This Westmalle Dubbel is a must have. dperrey (7), Durham, North Carolina, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 27, 2009 07/24/09: 12 oz bottle. Poured into tulip glass, it is dark brown, slightly cloudy, with a thick creamy off-white head. Smells of fruit. Taste is also of fruit - raisins, malt, perhaps coffee? Medium body and low hops, well balanced and good feel in the mouth. A fine dubbel. DeanF (298), Paris, France
