Similar in body to St. Feuillen; spritzy but still full enough to let the flavors shine through. And the flavors!...a little raisin, plum, tart cherries. Malty, yeasty (but not too much), just a great dubbel. Incredibly rocky, off-white head that lasts and lasts. Allen (1436), Switzerland

It pours a beautiful deep amber beer with a thick, rather big remaining tanned head. Outstanding flowery aromas of ripe fruits including berries, melon, banana and peaches. Wonderful hints of wild strawberries. Some toffee and licorice in the nose. Very sweet and slightly smoky. Some woody, madeira-like elements. The flavor is very rich and sweet with reminiscent woody characteristics. Rather vinous. This beer has a pleasant bitterness. A very well balanced dubbel with a sharp and spicy taste. Lots of caramel with hints of black chocolate. The finish is bitter with some dark chocolate that comes through.. I was impressed by this dubbel! Additional comment: An excellent trappist - slightly sour. Woody and vinous. Some candied fruits showing up. Unique. Third rerate: Excellent. Huge amonts of aniseed, chocolate, pineapple, homemade caramel, candy and sage showing up in both aroma and flavor. Good bitterness. Absolutely fantastic. After several sampings: Mango does come to mind in the taste especially. Eladerman (53), Newburgh, Indiana, USA

This is a wonderfully flavorful beer with the taste of figs and plums, etc. STEPHENDR (478), California, USA

This one is nice and creamy on the palate (finishes dry), produces the big rocky whtie Belgian head we have all come to know and love and of coarse has that fruity Belgian yeast flavor which offers darker fruity notes such as apricots, as well as tropical fruts such as bananas. Very good beer! dmradus (227), State College, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 27, 2006 Pours a deep brown with a tan head that faded to a thin cap on the beer that lasted right down to the final sip. The aroma here is intense and variable: my first attempt was all dark fruit, dominated by raisin. Second go of it found some yeasty spiciness, while the third was sweet and malty. The taste is similar. The flavors are layered one on top of another, but in a noticeably subtle way: one sip brings roasty malts and caramel, with a spiciness in the finish. The next brings dark fruits and a fading bitterness at the sides of the tongue. As for mouthfeel, the carbonation here is lively upon first digging in, and fades as the beer sits and warms. It is more drinkable at the beginning but easier to appreciate the flavors at the end - both work to admirable goals, and never is the beer watery in the slightest - even acquiring a distinct creaminess as it warms. beergut111 (210), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

I enjoy trappist beers but prefer to only have one or two, but I could drink this all night. Very well balanced and complex. Its a shame this is only a seasonal release at the LCBO.
