Starts strong on the palate and then softens with compex flavors and a hoppy, long lasting finish. Great dubbel. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 17, 2005 330 ml bottle. Aroma was way more sweeter and fruitier than the flavor. Aromas of cherry and currant prevailed with some caramel and molassas in there too. The flavor was very malty, with a tinge of sour viniousness to it.
Pretty good stuff. sammy3D (114), Lawrenceville, Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 22, 2005 Pours with a thick head to the lip of the glass that tops an inviting reddish brown. Aroma was spicy with notes of fruit. Hints of root beer matiness with plenty of fizz and notes of cherry. Nothing too overpowering with a smooth and lingering finish. Another excellent trappist beer. gladstone (22), Norway

Pours a cloudy dark mahogany color with a huge white fluffy head that recedes slowly and leaves a marvelous lacing.
Aroma is luscious with dense malty layers and lots of fruity notes. Dried fruits, figs, nuts, prunes, caramel macchiatto coffee, clove, some molasses and blueberries. Fantastic.
Flavor is multidimensional, sweet, malty and full of surprises. Caramel, nougat, figs, grapes, green apples, chestnuts... Oh my God! What a combination! I can’t believe how great the multiple elements flow together nicely. It ends with a chocolate mousse touch.
Amazing mouthfeel, velvety, creamy, excellent. Carbonation is medium. Great aftertaste, and intense retronasal. Long finish. Right amounts of alcohol. The best dubbel I’ve ever tried. GG (1648), NorCal, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 2, 2006 I had the pleasure to sample this and the Westmalle Triple side by side. What an incredible brew done to excellent proportions. Aroma was incredibly complex with brown sugar, some plums, some spices in there. Appearance was nice with large tannish head. Mouthfeel was strong with a full-bodied but balanced appeal. Extremely warming, very soothing. VikingHammer (363), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 25, 2007 Deep fruity aroma. Dark malt. Absolutely beautiful appearance, dark reddish brown. Perfect head, creamy tan that stays well. Great flavor, not too strong, slight alcohol in the finish. Malt and fruit taste. Good lacing of the head. Nothing outstanding on the palate. Simple. Expensive, but I’d drink it again, great beer.
