Dark brown color, good head. Chocolat and dark fruit in the aroma with a touch of alcohol. Dark fruit tastes carry into the body, finishes hoppily bitter. Nice warming alcohol. Overall this is a very nice beer, perhaps I expected more? Regardless, top notch.

Simply wonderful! I am admittedly not a hophead and this Ale hit the spot. This should be a benchmark experience in your adventure to beer appreciation. I loved the sweet malt unencumbered by the bitter backdrop of the hop. Excellent balance for a great and refreshing experience

Looks like a beautiful glass of root beer, dense brown pour with a creamy and bubbly tan top. Heavy lacing that gradually slides back down into the beer. Figs and sugary raisins lead off the abundant well rounded aroma. There is a very excellent scent of quality grape juice concentrate, almost wine like in nature. Not an extremely complex aroma but it is outstanding and very inviting. There’s a hearty body with this Dubbel that provides an exceptional smoothness. Not too thick, but still very creamy. There’s a wonderful underlying flavor of juicy red wine, this is initially noticed in the aroma but it really thrives as the base of a great well rounded flavor. Mild earthiness with some even milder smoked nuttiness. Moderately bitter notes are detected here and there, but this gets overshadowed by the fermented sweetness. Dark fruits, malty, sugary, and bitter all tossed together. There are many great facets involved with this great Belgian.

330mL bottle from the LCBO. Pours a very dark burgundy with a huge tan head that eventually reduces to some nice fluff. Aroma is really nice, some Belgian caramalt, loads of yeast and fruity esters, candi sugar, and some more generic sweetness. Smells quite enticing. Flavour is really good, and not what I’ve come to expect from Dubbels. Lots of the sweet malty aspects upfront, met with some nice herbal hops, a touch of alcohol, and rounding out very sharply with a lot of yeasty dryness. Mild hint of banana. The fruity esters in this one are just great. Very sharp. Some leafy hops are present in the flavour too, but were absent in the aroma. Red grapes feature prominently, and lend a very pleasant and apparent red wine characteristic to this well crafted brew. Very nice stuff, and I look forward to more.

Bottle. Heavy malty, dark bread, sweet, light alcoholic, port wine, light yeasty. Average brown creamy head, black body. Moderate sweet start and finish, long duration, silky mouth feel. Creamy texture, medium body, lively carbonation. Really a great great beer!
