Very nice aroma of fruity malt, maybe some raisins and a touch of a wooden cask in there. Definite alcohol bite, but a very well-balanced flavor of sweetish malt with a lightly bitter hop finish. Excellent. ivan9856 (129), Arlington, Virginia, USA

Malty nose with a hint of pumpernickel bread. Well-balanced and dry from beginning to end with a fresh finish and a well-disguised, relatively high ABV. Mid-palate flavors of dark cherry, bourbon and raisin. Very, very good. RichardWilding (190), London, Greater London, England

Rich dark brown colour, with a large head. Lovely lacing left on the side of my Chimay glass. Sweet and rich fruity flavours, with a hint of alcohol. BeanDip (107), Florida, USA

Hint of alcohol. Zesty on the tongue - spicy with lively carbonation. Hops emerge towards the finish and then slowly fade away leaving a nice trace of aftertaste. Wonderful! dobb1392 (36), Norman, Oklahoma, USA

As for taste, compared to the other trappist beers with its nice spicy slightly fruity palate. Well balanced alcohol, roast malts and hops. DCopperfields (144), Alabama, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 11, 2005 Beer is a rather nice, Pepsi-Cola brown atop of which rides a substantial and billowy beige head of considerable foam. Nose has hints of molasses mingling with alcohol and fermenting old fruits. Palate is creamy, a bit stinging yet pleasant. Taste is rich and wonderful. Carbonation dances on the tounge as flavor notes of faint chocolate intermingle with overripe fruit and roasted caramel apples. Finish is sweet and lingering, yet creamy and biting all at the same time. Very good.

Been loving this for years and just realised I never reviewed it. Rich ruddy brown body. That aroma; lots of fresh yeast, sniff of banana, clove, dry cleaning fluid... that flavour is all creamy fruits steeped in booze, mulled apple schnapps, carbonation keeping it feeling light not cloying. Then the malted fruits linger on the tounge. Been a long time since I was sat in Bar Erasmus cradling a couple of these, but it’s still a great drink. And that was my last bottle of Dubbel so it’s time for a shopping trip, methinks...
