Beer pours (in Westmalle glass) a dark brown-red liquid with an enormous amount of cotton-soft topped off-white head that dissipates somewhat, but lingers and looks great. Aroma is of brown sugar, dark plum, raisins, sweet fruit, port, chocolate. Flavor is of plum, raisin, port, only vaguely sweet but brown sugar, chocolate, with a faint, but noticable hop taste which slightly mars this excellent product. Otherwise, the ending is smooth and clean. Also has a wonderful mouthfeel. Sampled at 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Gmku (250), Asheville, North Carolina, USA

Heavily carbonated. Soft, sweet, not quite as harsh as other Belgians I’ve tried. Dried fruit and that wonderful Belgian yeast. A little woody and nutty. Extremely enjoyable. Is this heaven? No, it’s Westmalle. gilvanblight (390), Windsor, Ontario, Canada
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jun 4, 2005 Dark opaque colour with a buby mottled head. Strong malty head. Highly fizzy. Not nearly as malty as the scent. Extremely complex flavor for so few ingredients (sweet apple, maple caramel?) WMMALASKA (10), Anchorage, Alaska, USA

| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | May 24, 2007 Bottle: Pours deep chocolate brown with a thin light tan head, which adheres to the glass in an interesting way. Mild sweet aroma, hints of fruit and hint of hops. A marvelously balanced flavor with huge complexity. First sweet, a bit of wine-like flavor, with a noticable sour undertone, with a bit of bitterness breaking through, but no note dominates the symphony of flavors. Rich creamy texture. Truly a wonderous, nay, miraculous, perhaps divinely inspired brew. The other monks and I really enjoy this one. Currents and plump golden raisin notes mingle with the light carbonation...delightful. confusedboy0 (95), Belgium
