Flavor is pretty much typical belgium style. Very carbonated, it’s a little less sweeter then most belgians out there. Has a fruity dry flavor to it that is rather smooth and flavorful. I’d recommend this beer. Cletus (5057), Connecticut, USA

Malty sweetness cut by a peppery aftertaste but more balanced than Westmalle triple. Multiple tastings. julrey (32), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

Pours a deep translucent copper with one finger head and a sizeable amount of carbonation.
Smell is a complex bouquet of fruity esters, spices, and couple with an undercurrent of mild malt.
Mouthfeel is much the same as a typical Belgian such as a Chimay, a bubbly thickness which carries itself over the tongue in langorous fashion. Not much effort needed to savor rather than swill. Although this is a good Trappist dubbel, it’s hard not to compare with other major brands as there is a lack of truly distinctive flavoring present. Seems closest to a Chimay Cenq Cents if I’m recalling my Chimays correctly, although I definitely like this one a bit better. Very solid, as my scores reflect. I only sound jaded in my comments as a warning to people who have trouble finding Westmalle in their area; if you’ve got the usual suspects (Chimay, Ommegang, Orval, etc) this one may not be worth going too far out of your way to acquire. tjwais (42), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

My bottle poured with a fantastic creamy head, and the beer itself appeared a dense, murky brown color. Complex flavors going on here, but smooth and malty to my tongue. Interesting fizzy palate. This was my first trappist ale, and I’m impressed. Fantomas23 (463), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 20, 2005 Brown like caramelized sugar. The foamy, cream-colored head filled out the Trappist glass. Swirling it in the glass, the beer feels heavy for its volume. Distant malt sweetness on the nose, very muted, plums and apricots, orange rinds. A very full, creamy mouthfeel. A note of communion wine (perhaps I’d go to church if they served this stuff). With each sip, I expect there to be an alcoholic finish, but there is none. Incredibly smooth. Sweet not with overpowering candi sugar but subtle fruity maltiness. Given enough time, a dryness begins to develop slowly. I found this one to be quite enjoyable and wouldn’t mind having a second serving immediately. Veer (355), Landskrona, Sweden
