The nose is wonderful and complex. Starts with cotton candy, and then I pick up cherry, apricot, plum, apple. The flavor reminds me of good brandy. Rich malt and a woodsy note, strong alcohol, carbonation speeding it to the back of your throat. There find cinnamon, cardamom, white pepper. A nice, purely bitter aftertaste waits. Truly great. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 12, 2006 Pours with a beautiful cafe au lait head and an aroma of dried fruit, hops, and brown sugar. Good biting flavor of soy sauce or Marmite (but milder) and toasted grain. A slightly bitter finish, not too dry. Tropical fruit flavors continue to unfurl through the remainder of the glass. coldbrewky (730), Saugerties, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 19, 2008 Bottle: Pours a silty brown with a bit of light let thru at the edges of the glass. A frothy tand oily head gives way to thicker rings alongside the rim of the glass and covers 3/4 over the beer. Nose of sweet cherries with some whisps of oak. Tounge is enveloped with velvet of gentle malts and hops that build to a stong tinglyness of fruit..mostly cherries but a whip or two of ripe mellons. Taken over then by the superb chalky chocolate/pale malt mixture thata lso has hints of nuts and earth. Good medium finish speaks of patience and confidence. This Trappist brew poured a very hazy coffee brown with a slight reddish tint. Head was light tan, thin, and creamy.....some lacing. Aroma was of toffee, raisins, and other dark fruits. As the beer sat, cherry aroma’s became more predominant. Medium in body and some what sweet. Another great brew from the Monks! beerBB (132), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA

Delicious aroma of grapes, black- berries, and lots of malt. Full mouthfeel, with an emphasis again on the malt, but without being cloying. Smooth and almost wine-like, and it should be treated as such - it truly is a holy thing. Highly sessionable for it’s strength.
