Bottled - Kulminator- Antwerpen - 1998 vintage. A nice chestnut brown coloured beer with a decent beige coloured head. The aroma is showing signs of age as there are some musty notes amongst the chocolate and fruity smells. A touch of sourness also. The taste is woody and slightly sour. Again a little mustiness. Leather armchairs in need of a dust. Some chocolate. A real treat to pick up and very tasty still after 8 years.

Bottled, one at Kulminator and one at home. (1998 vintage) Rating no 1000. Murky, dark brown with a tiny beige head. Berries, at least blackcurrant, caramel, candi-sugar, dried fruits, coffee-notes and cellar-notes in the aroma. Berries, dried fruit, candisugar, hints of lightly roasted grain, yeast, some alcohol and caramel flavor. Delicious. You should have the whole bottle to get all the nuances in the beer, as the sediments adds a good deal of aroma, flavor and looks. It has a full, sweet body, and the finish has some alcohol and sweetness. The two bottles I had, both came from Kulminator, was supposed to be the same vintage and stored the same way, yet tasted differently. Could someone convince the monks that they should start brewing it again? (060801: 8-4-8-3-15-3.8) (060714)

Kulminator, 23 May 2006. Very murky straw coloured body. Not a full taste, especially after I had tried some bigger beers, caramel notes in both aroma and taste and the alcohol.

[1991] Poured a hazy reddish, chestnut brown color with a thin, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, nuts, oxidized sherry, more dried fruits, and a small amount of alcohol. Taste of more nuts, with dried fruits, caramel malts, and a yeasty, dry finish. Medium to low carbonation.

1991. Huge thanks to egajdzis. Mild gush demonstrates that the beer retained ample carbonation. Cloudy brown body with a receding, dusty head. Nice toffee aroma with qualities of sherry, Madeira, and cherry. Flavors of warm, dark fruit including prunes, sweet malt, and dark sugar plus signature Westy cola notes and a hint of Balsamic. Mellow, mature texture. Pleasing, with an amazing amount of good character retained.

Big thanks to egajdzis for sharing this one (I’ve been looking for it for a while now!). 91 Vintage. This one was a light gusher (shame a couple drops were wasted on the counter top, but I though I saw Eric slurpping the drops up!). Poured a medium and murky brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of dark fruits (plums and cherries), caramel, light cork, and had a light overall mustiness to it. Tastes of the same although they were lighter than the aromas. Thinner body. Held up amazingly well.
