Bottle from 98. Dark redbrown with a steady beige head. Nose is very sweet and heavily fruity with overripe fruits (peaches, nectarines, apricot) and soysauce. Tastes sweet, dark fruits, caramel, ends brilliantly smooth and long.

Sweet floral hop malt aroma. Cloudy yellow colour with good head and lacing. Sweet malt hop flavour with floral undertones. Fizzy palate. These guys know how to make beer! ;-)

(Bottle 33 cl) Very dark - almost stout-like - with a big and rather stable head. Notes of figs - burned figs - a bit tar’ish. Must contain considerable amounts of burned malts. Surprisingly only medium-bodied for a trappist. Very easy to drink, and not really hardcore in any way. Pity this has been taken out of production. 070398

VINTAGE 1998. Kulminator Antwerp. Red ruby beer going towards brown. Very abundant white foam. Still a remarkable level of carbonization in spite of its age. First metal nose then blue grape, caramel and coffee. Also hay in the flavour. Seems very attenuated in mouth, lack of body. The flaveurs are all the same towards malt and refer to biscuits and nuts. Slightly acid and oxidized.

Bottle, Passage Cafe, Brugge, Belgium. Amber color, white head. Tiny bubbles. Thin body. Floral hop aroma w/ caramel malt smells as well. Belgian yeast smells. Taste is floral, bitter, mellow sweet malts. Very well-balanced. not too estery, not too rich. Not overly bitter. Finish is clean. Eager to try the 8 and 12.

I only tasted the 0.01 cl that was left in Sahlhold’s glas, but thanks anyway to him and Engelsmann. Vintage 1998. The aoma is malty, fruity, spicy with notes of hops. Taste of fuit, malt, raisins, caramel and plums.

Vintage 1998. Dark redbrown with creamy beige head. Fruit, spices and yeast in the aroma. The aroma gives away it is a westvleteren. Taste is fresh but also full bodied complex. Plum, rasins, spices malt and yeast. Thank you very much, Engelsman for passing Ølbaren, with this one, on my shift.

Pours a dark redbrown, with a creamcoloured head. Aroma is fruity, spicy, and yeasty. Taste is sweet, full bodied, malty, roasted. Medium mouthfeel, and a medium roasted, fruity aftertaste
