Commercial Description:
Westvleteren Blond is the basic beer for the monks’ own consumption, since 1999, when the former 6° dark ale (red cap) was finally discarded, after the 4° had already gone that path.

0.33l - Poured a bright brassy/gold that seemed to glow from within. Light head, fabulous lace. Nose of toasted white bread. Hoppy on the palate at first, fading to honey and finishing with a seltzerlike fizzyness.

Made this my #1000 ,because Westy 12 was #100 for me,plus this brew represents the great time I had at this years Oktoberfest in Munich. This beer was sent to meby a good English doctor I met in Munich. He stopped at the Abbey and picked me up some bottles on the way back to England. As far as the brew itself, the sweet garden aroma of gentle fruits, grain malts and a quick hit of floral hops distinguishes the beautiful and near flawless aroma, taste is a light mix of lemony ,lime citrus fruit and slightly acedic tart fruit, with just the most pleasant of smooth finishes,as satisfying a beer under 6% that I have ever had. Lord ,we thank Thee for these wonderful monks at St. Sixtus

The Blond opens with a yeasty aroma followed by wheat, clove, and Noble hop notes. It pours more like an unfiltered lager than a weizen with subdued carbonation. The flavor resembles a weizen with marked yeast notes and some residual sweetness. In my opinion the yeastiness detracts from the palate, although the mouthfeel is very malty. I prefer Orval in this style, with Chimay Blanche a close second.

Thanks to Drewbeerme. A very mellow take on a Belgian Ale. Everything is well mixed and no vegetable taste is desernalble like most Belgians. Its hay and citric with some yeast and cream. Not my favorite style, and i can imagine what a trip this bottle took and still its very good. Lots of lively carbonation and very murky and dirty. I would love to have some of this on tap!

Bottle at In de Vrede, Westvleteren. One of my favourite beers in the world. Hazy golden blond colour, with tight white head. Hoppy citric creamy nose with yeastiness. Fullish in mouth iwth tart drying lemony citrus finish. Refreshing and wonderful. Had to re-rate again. Excellent yeasty/hoppy/citrus nose with grapefruit. Can’t express what a good blond this is!

Bottle (33 cl) from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen, Denmark. Hazy deep golden with a small but longlasting head. Complex earthy and yeasty aroma with light herbal hops. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation. Very fry with a long moderately bitter finish.

Sampled at Westvleteren cafe, alongside her sister beers. Killer! As big as can be for a beer with less than 6%. Unbelievable complexity. Dry. Finely hopped. Pine, esters in nose. Finely honed. Soft mouthfeel.
