Commercial Description:
Westvleteren Blond is the basic beer for the monks’ own consumption, since 1999, when the former 6° dark ale (red cap) was finally discarded, after the 4° had already gone that path.

Bottle @ In de Vrede, Westvleteren. Dense and creamy two finger head over a slight hazy, peach-colored body. Pleasant fruit aromas; tropical, yellow apples, melon, sweet citrus and banana-split. Lots of floral hops and some yeasty notes. Taste is very well balanced, both mellow and crisp, with a soft maltiness, and a light astringent fruity flavor. Mild bittering hops with a fruity acidity throughout the finish. Smooth and refreshing. An excellent Blonde!

Hazy blond with a white head. An aroma of wheat, spice and yeast. A fresh flavor with notes of oak, yeast and spice.

Partly cloudy dark-blonde body with lots of small particles. Initially large white head with medium retention. Thanks to red éric for parting with one. Bottle is a few years old. Most attractive feature to me is the countryside wild yeast flavour that I usually get from some of my favourite funky Wallonian blondes (Rulles Blonde, Fantôme Saison, etc.). Cheesy, bubble-gum, vanilla ice-cream and everything… Floral hops that are more aromatic (garden flowers/lavender) than tasty. Superb chewy/doughy mouthfeel. Surprisingly not-intense (almost delicate) given its reputation. Definitely one I’d like to have again side-by-side with some of the aforementioned beers but unfortunately nowadays it is as hard to find as a humanitarian at a Republican Party Convention.

Bottle at Kulminator. Hazy golden with a beautiful, big white head. Fruity aroma with hints of spicy hops. Good bitterness with harmonious fruit and grassy flavours. Dry mouthfeel. Reminds me very much of a Hommelbier and that is not a bad thing.

11.2oz bottle. big thanks to JB175 for trading this. pours hazy yellow with huge fluffy head. nose has a strange combination of cloves, citrus, yeast, pepper, B.O., and medicine, kinda stinky. flavor follows the nose into a pretty unappealing mothy, grainy, dirty, cloves, pepper, hay, sugar, and toffee. it tastes sorta strange how all the components for a funky belgian ale are here but it still doesn’t balance together well and tastes off. mouthfeel is nice, smooth, and creamy.as i drink it the flavors start to seem more together but still, i was really surprised i didn’t like this that much.3.6.

4/6/08, sampled at a WLV tasting. now i get this beer. wonderfully hoppy grassy herbal and floral. tastes clean, refreshing, and fresh. a wonderful belgian ale.4.0.
