Commercial Description:
Westvleteren Blond is the basic beer for the monks’ own consumption, since 1999, when the former 6° dark ale (red cap) was finally discarded, after the 4° had already gone that path.

Bottle shared with and courtesy of gputy. Pours a fairly bright yellow with a thin, but frothy, white head. Nose of yeast, pepper, and perhaps white grapes.. Flavor is slightly hoppy, with the yeast from the nose, as well as a sweetness. Very smooth mouthfeel - not too light, not too heavy; just right.

Thanks once again Maria for the trade. What a difference between this and the other 2. Aroma was all grass. I didn’t get the concept of "grass" in beer until this. Tasted and smelled like I just cut the lawn. A little hop in the after taste. While the 8 and 12 are at the top of their game, the blond leaves a lot to be desired.

I don’t imagine this beer would travel very well. Had this at the abbey cafe and it was hoppy fresh and flavourful and the second best beer I had when I was in Belgium. Page 496 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer guide.

Bottle at Waagstuk, Antwerpen. Golden body, medium white creamy head, very small particles. Honey, flowers, sugar, fruits, funky yeast in the aroma. Light hop bitter and sweet flavour, more light hoppy finish. Delicious.

Rating #300

330 ml brown bottle. Gift from a friend.

Hazy golden with a thin but lasting head. Streams of tiny champagne like bubbles rise from various parts of the glass.

Sweet citrus nose, lightly floral, maybe some apple.

Flavor is citrusy, doughy, a little spicy a little sweet. Leaves a tingle on the lips.

Finish is long and refreshingly bitter with a sweet fruitiness rolled up inside.

I wish I had more.

Lovely gold with a fat, creamy head. Nose of lemon, honey, fresh and grassy hops. Flavor has citrus notes, nicely dry and good bitterness. refreshing. Faintly lambic-like musty tones much appreciated. Barely a drop of sweetness to be found. Justly famous. Probably my favorite blonde in the country, it grows on me more each time I try it.

Drunk at One Pint Pub, Helsinki during the Belgian beer week 2007. The menu says "6" but the cap is green. Wonderfull balanced flower, grass, hay aroma. Taste very fresh, nice yeasty bitterness. Perfectly balanced. Hazy colour, big white head.
