Commercial Description:
Westvleteren Blond is the basic beer for the monks’ own consumption, since 1999, when the former 6° dark ale (red cap) was finally discarded, after the 4° had already gone that path.

The aroma of this beer is sweet, lime, honey, plum, fruit cake. As I taste this beer the flavors previously mentioned come out. The honey, bitterness, all are enhanced by the crisp carbonation of this brew. This is delicious Trappist, one that satisfies with complex flavors and crisp taste.

From the bottle into a shallow chalice @ the Blanche de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium.
Poured a hazy gold, well conditioned as the carbonation was microscopic and slow to release. Head was firm, rocky and held out for the length lacing well. Aroma was fruity, citric - a blend reminiscent of New Zealand and American hop notes - with grapefruit, passionfruit, guava and just a little bready yeast and pale malt to fill it out. Its quite lively in the mouth. Its not harshly carbonated but it does bounce and prickle. Sweet, fruity esters lead it, its yeasty and bready otherwise. Nice ripe grapefruit and lemon, touch of sour malt in back before a dry, scarcely fruity bitter swallow that held little length. As it warms it fills out a little becoming tangy, gammy and slightly herbal. Not much to it, though it is refreshing cold. Glad I got to try it, though it was no showstopper. Rare, but not refined Summer quaffer. The monk’s ale, so to speak. (33cL, 07/09/07 stamped on the cap)

Bottle. Pours yellow / golden, hazy with a small white head. Smells yeast, malt and grapefruit. Aroma is promising, with yeasts, malt, spice and hop, nice and very complex.

Pours cloudy and light golden with a thin mostly receding white head. Aroma of honey, toasted malts, bread dough, coriander, and saffron. Taste is lightly sweet and yeasty with notes of fruity esters and wheat. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with lush carbonation. Fruity and refreshing! Well done.

Courtesy of boboski. Hazy yellow/gold topped by a modest, frothy yet dense, white head. Softly sweet malt, light grains, cardboard, small dose of light fruits, crisp bitterness, light must, and a subtle sourness on the finish. Medium body, balanced. Solid blond.

Pours a slight hazy golden with a huge white head. Aroma is light fruits, apples, pears, candy suga, bit of citrus. Flavor is sweet, with the light fruits providing most of the flavor. Mouthfeel is very smooth, finish is decently bitter, well balanced.
