Although I’d tried the Westvleteren beers plenty of times in the past, I’d not rated them as I’d steered clear since they got rare and expensive. A trip to the monastery was an ideal opportunity to put that right. Hazy blonde. Fruity but dry with a strong tangy citrus and spicy aftertaste. Not the big hitter of the Westy crew but very refreshing.
azlondon (457), Greater London, England Jun 27, 2008 Trappist beers being my favourite beer type, I had been trying to get hold of Westvleteren for a long time. I finally found all three of them - not cheap though.

Info: 330ml bottle, 16/6-2006, 126/300, 67/500 arhythmt (67), USA Jun 25, 2008 Wow! A delicious blond beer: Well-balanced, a bit spicy and hoppy up front, nice mid-palate with great texture and dandelion or wild clover flavors, smooth aftertaste with lingering spicy malt and hops. Very nice, and well worth tracking down. mar (480), Dallas, Texas, USA Jun 22, 2008 bottle courtesy of bhops. murky blond yellow pour. spicy, malty scent with notes of esters. nice thickness with a very good spice flavor. anotherpint (5), , Pennsylvania, USA does not count Jun 19, 2008 A bright, almost radiant blonde (in full sunlight), color and appearance were impressive. Creamy head, with a warm aroma... wildflowers?, the regions hops, and a toasted barley scent all made an appearance. Flavor was medium-sweet with a blend of fresh fruits and a noted fresh wheat. Sunny finish, mild aftertaste which shifts from medium-sweet to drier hops. [From "In de Vrede" cafe, Westvleteren, Belgium.] BartC (222), Lichtaart, Belgium Jun 16, 2008 Blond beer slighly hazy beer with a small white creamy head. Fruity and spicy aroma. Very similar to Westmalle tripel but that is not really surprising as they share the same yeast. A nice mild bitterness in the mouth that lasts a long time. Also in the taste I find similarities with Westmalle tripel. More than excellent beer. Even more, I like this one more than the 12!
