jason (1509), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 25, 2008 Samples at the Weyerbacher Release Party. Nice golden body with a decent head. Aroma is earthy with some hops and spices. Flavor is smooth, light spices and yeast. Afull bodied mouthfeel with a clean taste that goes down too easy. They need to make this more available.
JCB (1050), Durham, North Carolina, USA Oct 2, 2008 12oz from MrBendo - thanks, Todd! Pours a clear orange, even though the big yeasty aroma and taste would suggest a cloudy body. Active, crisp, champagne-like carbonation give this a fairly aggressive mouthfeel. Some spice and peppery yeasts complement the lively carb and well hopped body. Good, crisp, long and fairly dry finish. But not especially memorable. Glad to try though! Ughsmash (3070), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 29, 2008 Bottled. Poured clear lighter golden with a viscous coating of tight-bubbled white head. The aroma was spicy upfront with white pepper and cloves.. some banana meat and pale malts behind, but they didn’t play much of a factor.. some nice character here, but it smelled hotter than it should have. The flavor also opened with spicage, this time in the form of peppery alcohol.. pale and lightly bready malts never really settled on the middle of the palate.. spices continued through the finish with yeasty banana and white pepper esters. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation.. spicy, tart, and warm on the palate to a level that it detracted from my enjoyment a little.. OK overall. kramer (1888), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 25, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy gold body with a small fizzy off-white head that faded fairly quickly. Very very happy to see that Weyerbacher is finally doing some bottle conditioning! The nose on this is surprisingly like dish detergent unfortunately with some accents of banana esters and a touch of yeast. That soapy note in the nose just keeps on coming in the flavor with the banana and moderate perfumy hops. It’s really very similar to lavender or some other floral taste, spicier on the finish. A little of those fruity esters linger on in the finish but not enough to take away that soapy taste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, a little too thick and doughy, with fizzy active carbonation. This was pretty horrorshow actually. Tastes like a thin Hefeweizen that was dry "hopped" with a bunch of lavender and flowers. Yuck. Linus_Stick (1553), Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 17, 2008 A very average American attempt at a Belgian beer. Aroma and taste were both....in a word...soapy. Pour was a nice dark orange with a 3 finger tan head. Aroma was soap and light fruit. Taste was light fruit and mostly handsoap. Blah. kkearn (682), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 27, 2008 12oz bottle, from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Pours yellow-golden, capped with a medium-sized, frothy beige head. Aroma of wheat, dried banana, clove, tropical fruit, and some hops. Wheat and yeast are the predominant flavors, with coriander, clove, banana, apple, and citrus. Some hops are evident in the background towards the finish. Very Enjoyable.
