Commercial Description:
AutumnFest is Weyerbachers own unique twist on the German Oktoberfest style. Copper-amber in color, AutumnFest is made with Vienna and Munich malts for that authentic, Bavarian easy drinking taste. Each sip imparts a wonderful roastiness of malt on the tongue followed by a smooth, consistent finish. Wonderfully balanced with a clean, velvety, slightly fruity taste, AutumnFest is the perfect beer for the Fall- a nice transition between the lighter beers of summer and the darker, heavier winter brews. It is a favorite of many Weyerbacher aficionados, who anticipate the end of summer with this wonderful beer. Weyerbacher AutumnFest (ABV 5.4%) is generally available in stores August through December. Pick up a case to celebrate the change of seasons. Prost!

12 Oz Bottle. Aroma is rather skanky. A real dirty, dirty grain profile. Not good. Underneath some straight clean Munich, but its buried by a musty, grain bed. Pours a good burnished orange, with a foam tinted bread-colored. Flavor carries the reek across; estery grain rot. Behind this a little bit of respectable malt sugar pops up and a light nip of that clean, lager character, but the first time back to the glass is always marred with off notes. Once the palate adjusts, the back end is pleasantly kissed with a juicyfruit bite of noble hop. If it cleaned up, it might be okay.

Bottle: off-white head tops a copper pour. Sweet, toasted malt aroma with a light alcohol zest in the background. Has prickly carbonation, with an early spicy malt character. There’s a light hint of alcohol in the middle. The later flavors, throughout the finish have a drop of tartness. Not sure what this is from, maybe it’s a malt component (sour dough-ish) A little bit off balance overall.

I had this at an Oktoberfest horizontal at a friends house. Aroma: grain and slightly metallic (hops). Pours gold! Strong flavor of malt and hops. Smooth and mild finish. I enjoyed this beer. It’s strong in flavor that a lot of other marzens.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper color. Very nice slightly off white head which hung around for most drink. Aroma of malt, caramel, some alcohol and hops. Taste of malt, caramel and some nut. Finishes with some hop bitterness. A nice Autumn beer.

Bottled at The Coney. Light caramel malt aroma. Neutral fruit with some nutty character. Light hoppy snap. Clear copper amber with thin off-white lacing head. Medium watery body with fairly vigorous carbonation. Starts with medium-heavy sweetness. Caramel and brown sugar, light diacetyl. Carbonic acidity with bit of nutty bitterness in the finish. A bit too much sweetness; not quite saccharin but a tad too much. Sugary nutty after.

12oz. Slightly hazy copper body with a fleeting, off-white head. Great carbonation and hops that seems maybe the slightest bit deviant from the style, but still has some decent malt backing to bring it back to form. Caramel, roasted almonds and possibly the slightest notion of sassafras makes this a fairly enjoyable brew. One of the best domestic east-coast maerzens I have sampled.

12 oz. bottle 2007. Clear amber/gold our with a medium off white head. Toasty malt aroma with some toffee notes. Smooth, medium body and carbonation, with a rather light feel for a Marzen. Flavor is decidedly malty as it should be, but there is a light tangy, spicy bitterness right at the end. Actually has a slightly dry finish. Not too bad, but lacks some of the richness of the best Marzens.

12 oz bottle. Light copper with a thin white head. Toasted bread crumbs and mild caramel in the aroma. Light palate. Taste is malty and simple with little bit of caramel and spice accenting the malt. The finish has a mild hop presence. The palate really seems a bit watery compared to the aromas and flavors present. Could be heartier.
