Commercial Description:
AutumnFest is Weyerbachers own unique twist on the German Oktoberfest style. Copper-amber in color, AutumnFest is made with Vienna and Munich malts for that authentic, Bavarian easy drinking taste. Each sip imparts a wonderful roastiness of malt on the tongue followed by a smooth, consistent finish. Wonderfully balanced with a clean, velvety, slightly fruity taste, AutumnFest is the perfect beer for the Fall- a nice transition between the lighter beers of summer and the darker, heavier winter brews. It is a favorite of many Weyerbacher aficionados, who anticipate the end of summer with this wonderful beer. Weyerbacher AutumnFest (ABV 5.4%) is generally available in stores August through December. Pick up a case to celebrate the change of seasons. Prost!

Smooth brew, easy to drink. Roasted malt and hop combination in flavor. Russet- amber color. Good beer for the autumn season.

After picking up the seasons current offering, I’m obliged to come back and redo my previous rating and evaluation. I’m not sure if the recipe changed, my palate changed, I had a weird bottle, or I was just insane, but last time I swear I detected loads of hop flavor. However, in the current sampling, there is nothing of the kind other than a very mild background of hop bitterness. Instead, this is a rather malty offering, with a clean sweet nose, and full malty sweet flavor. Nice medium body. A bit on the cloudy side, but otherwise a nice brownish amber color with a good head.

Appearance: Pours a bright amber body with a small, though lasting white head. Smell: Toasted caramel aroma with a hint of vine-ripe fruitiness. Taste: Rich toasted caramel taste that’s a bit bready. Slight fruitiness. Hints of brown sugar and spice. Floral hops with a reserved spicy bitterness that lingers softly into the aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: All the flavors come together nicely to create a pleasing, refreshing Oktoberfest beer.

This is a very tastey, mildy malty brew. A tad thin but smooth with a nice hop balance.

12 oz. brown, longneck bottle. No freshness date seen, but it’s the 2004 batch, knowing the store where I got it from. Poured out a brilliantly clear bright copper color, with a sticky white head. The head left a generous lacing down the sides of the glass. Aromas are of fresh Munich and Vienna malts, slight burnt sugar, some yeastiness and earthy hops. The hops are subdued in aromas, but strong and earthy in flavors. They provide a balancing factor to the sweet malts. It is a very well balanced beer, with nothing in particular rising above any other ingredient. Slight tastes of alcohol on the backend of this beer give it a definite kick. Stronger than most Octoberfests I’ve had, that much is certain. Thick mouthfeel is almost chewy from all the malts in it. Finishes very balanced and warming. Makes you want to say "Wunderbar."

Toasty, bready, malt forward aroma is fresh, clean and appealing. Clear amber-brown body with a large, pillowy, long lasting, off white head that coats the glass. Bready and toasty malt character carries this one through with a fair finishing bitterness to keep from cloying. Soft, creamy texture to the medium body with fine carbonation that is lively on the tongue. I thought this was a very well made Octoberfest and I’m very surprised to see it entered as an amber ale. Sampled on the PA trip 2005.
