Roasted aroma thats non-distinct. Initial flavor is very nice, roasted malt, coffee, caramel and chocolate flavors. Sweet and clean finish. Complex for a porter and little to no smoke. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 5, 2006 Bottle from xproudfoot. Deep red-brown body, puffy dirty tan head. Roasty aroma, a bit soapy, with chocolate and butter. Lots of molasses in the body, paired with sweet milk chocolate and roast. Rich, velvety, and stout-like. The sweetness and soapiness remind me of Arcadia Starboard Stout, though this is a bit heavier. This is the kind of beer that’s best when restricted to one per sitting, but it is very good. beerbill (1985), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 17, 2006 12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep brown, not quite black, with a thick tan head. Very pleasant aroma of coffe, chocolate and roasted malt. The first sip was a bit of a disappointment. The wonderful aromas that were coming through in my nose did not really come through in the flavor. There was some chocolate and molasses present, but subdued. In addition, there was a bit of an off-flavor, kind of like wet cardboard, in the follow-through. Body was a tad thin. My appetite was whetted by the aroma but I was left a bit unsatisfied by the time the glass was emptied. zebracakes (1217), Washington DC, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 24, 2006 (2004) 12 oz bottle-- thanks to IrishSnake! :) Poured a deep chocolate brown with a thin tan head. Aroma was very subdued and I couldn’t get anything out of it... but it SURE did make up in taste. I agree with some of the other folks-- it resemles a stout in body. This porter has a very bold start with chocolate and roasted malt flavors but finishes clean and sweet without a "punch". Definately a great beer! Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2006 Pour is blackish brown with a nice dense tan head...smell is roasty with cocoa and some sweet molasses...taste is sweet and roasty...lots of chocolate...a little thin... mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 4, 2006 Although the Weyerbacher web site lists this as "Porter-ish" it really seem to posses more Stout characteristics. Pours quite thick and black with some red highlights. Aroma a bit restrained, but some pleasant notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and black cherry comes through. Palate seems a bit light, not as full as you would expect after the thick pour. Flavor dominated by the roasted malts at first followed by the presence of some restrained coffee, milk chocolate, dark cherries and some smokiness coming through in the finish. In the end I suppose its a light stout or a big porter? Anyway, pretty good stuff.
