I have never had an Old Ale like this before! I would have never imagined this was an Old Ale, I would have thought it was a Stout with all the rich dark flavors. Appearance: Dark opaque brown almost black with head hues and a thick creamy 3 finger light brown head. Thick lacing and a frothy cap lasted the duration of the beer. Smell: Toffee. Molasses. Unsweetened Chocolate. Dark roasted malts and coffee. Taste: Burnt chocolate, coffee malts, dark raspberries, toffee all make up the fantastic complex layers of the beer. Magnificent! It has a slight coffee - hop bitter with an alcohol sharpness that balances it perfectly. It does have a strong bitter lingering aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Very smooth creamy medium body beer. It is not overly carbonated but just enough to create a smooth creamy mouthfeel from beginning to end. Drinkability: WOW! I am thrilled to have been blessed with this beer. I will certainly seek it out again. One went down so nicely I just wish I had a few more. Great work Weyerbacher, you knocked this one over the fence. Hope this is helpful. Cheers!

Aroma was very subdued almost bland. Flavor was slightly sweet and malty, but also sort of nondescript.

Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours dark with a good size tan head. Aroma of roasted and chocolate malts, wood and fruit. Flavor is smooth, mildly carbonated, chocolate, roast, and fruit.

Black, thick tan creamy head. Nose held soft notes of milk chocolate, oatmeal, mild nutty coffee, soured cherry, with an overall burnt tone. Chocolate bitterness up front with further notes of burnt coffee, and touches of citrus. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry, bittersweet finish. Not their best, but a nice effort...

Very nice roasty-malt taste. Sweeter than most porters, but not overdone. Not the best around, but will have again.

What exactly is an "intriguiing" amount of molasses? OK, OK. Cocoa head rises high and leaves lacing as it diminishes. Chocolate brown brew. Aromas of molasses, cherry/raspberry, chocolate and barleywine astringency. Lots of alcohol at play on the palate. Drying finish, tangy astringency. Chocolate, yes, but also a good amount of generic malt taste. Overall lacking in the flavor department.

Bottle: Dark black, tan light head, adequate lacing. Nose of bright toast, sweet vanilla, char, delicious caramelized umami-infused carcinogens. Mmmmmm. The flavor is sweet, some fig and caramel, light astringency. Nice finish, beautiful porter. Tasty beer.

nobody says it like Pigfoot: "Terminal ebon, with shimmers of crimson, wafer thin cocoa head. Ripe fruit, mixed with with roasty malt, in the aroma...nicely met. rustic, edgy, woody. In the mouth, smooth, tasty, roasty, dark malts, charcoal and chocolate. ...fuller body, well-rounded mouthfeel. Nice texture, dry, sophisticated finish."
