Pours an excellent deep, dark black color with a light head and little retention. Smells mostly of alcohol which is odd because it’s not very high in alcohol. A smoky / chocolate smell is lightly laced under the sweet alcohol smell. A medium body flavor that tends to be a little thin in the middle and smokey towards the end. This lends to a very drinkable Porter which is neither spectacular nor unimpressive. Overall a great beer to sip all day.

At first glance this looks like a porter, dark black appearance. Aroma is mild with a little chocolate. Very little head. Taste is unbelievably smooth with little bitterness. Overall great dark ale. Mix it with the ESB and you get what they call the "White Hole"

12 oz. 2005 bottling - thanks to Eyedrinkale for this one! Pours dark brown, opaque with a large tan head taht diminished to a thick skin on top. Aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, coffee, a hint of blackberry, lots of roastiness (bodering on ashy) and cream. Dark roasted malts, bakers chocolate, strong black tea, bitter herbal hoppiness and dandelion milk - a little harsh. Midium to full body, gently creaqm carbonaton.

Draft at the North Star bar in Philly. Black as night with thin head. Goes down smooth with slight chocalate undertones. Finishes smooth. A decent porter.

Nose of flowers, toffee, berries, soap, and coffee. Pours black with a frothy brown head that is mostly diminishing and leaves light lace. The brew has good balance. The floral malt sweetness is echoed by roasted nutty bitterness. The robust finish is roasted espresso. The medium body is lively and dry.

Very dark brown - thin tan head. Nice warm chocolate flavor - hints of smoked peat and coffee. Maybe a bit thin body.

Bottle. Pours with a thin head and a thick looking character with little to no lace and a black color that is impossible to see through, even when held up to the light. Aroma of prunes and chocolate brownies. Body is not really heavy when actually tasting it, but a nice coffee bean bitterness lays on the back of the tongue... Sort of like a light stout... I guess that makes sense when I look and see that it is classified as a porter. This is a fine brew. I’m probably drinking it a little cold, so I’ll let it warm and let you know.....Not much change. A nice roasted flavor that finishes with a nice dark cocoa flavor. I like it.
