Thanks to Zathrus13 for this in one of our many trades. Pours a Dark dark brown bordering on black with just a little head. Nose is roasted coffee beans and chocolate. This is a little thin on the tongue but still has a nice flavor of roasted malts.A nice brew to kick back and watch the Shield with.

(03.26.06) Stout/porter sampling with Scott, Tony and Walt at DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. 12 oz brown bottle from trade with Firemoose15. Poured black with average tan head. No discernable carbonation. Roasted sweet malt in the nose. Medium bodied porter that starts with light sweet malt and roasted malt flavor. Finishes with light bitterness and roasted malt fade. Thin textured and not much complexity in flavor, this is a very good porter nonetheless. Of the six porter/stouts sampled, this porter takes second place. Thanks Firemoose15.

The aroma was roasty, dark fruit, slight smoke, slight sugary/candy note. The flavor was roasty, dark fruit, plums, light chocolate and caramel. The beer poured a black color w/ red hues, a slight brown head and lace. The mouthfeel was full bodied, well rounded, and creamy.

2006 12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark brown with some red when held to the light. Medium tan fluffy head that left some lacing. Aroma of chocolate, molasses and roasted malts. Flavor of chocolate, roasted malts and some light hop bitterness. Enjoyed the flavor slightly more than the aroma.

Sampled at Weyerbacher’s Open House. Pours very dark brown with a tall tan head. Aroma was slight but of roasted malts and chocolate. Taste was a bit stout-like-roasted malts, hops, and chocolate. Palate was porter-like. Good beer, but not goign to be a favorite.

Commencing countdown. In 3...2...1 Ignition. The engines are redolent with burnt baker’s chocolate and sour cherries? Heading deeper into the black hole finds us in fruity chocolate territory surrounded by a full tan head. Our afterburn leaves ample tan lacing as this silky fuel powers our journey into this medium-bodied black hole. And suddenly...we are through. We made it with a only a long bitter finish left behind.

Bottle. Deep dark brown with good size light brown head. Roasty and chocolate as expected, not really the best stout/porter character. A certain hop addition here that I notice in many of this style that seems to give a fruity fuel taste. But, also has a good, smooth, nutty roastiness. Hoppy and bitter also. Good full palate and flavor.

(22 oz bottle: Obtained 18-Mar-05 in trade with hopdog, thanks Steve!) Let’s see how this beer is with a full year of aging under its belt. Still plenty of coffee, roast and baker’s chocolate in the flavor, but there is a moderate woody/vinous/fruity/sour character coming to the forefront and adding a nice bit of complexity. The sour, vinous notes are more prominently a part of the nose, with modest coffee requiring a good swirl to make any impression. Not too much carbonation at play here, but I think that works quite nicely actually. Medium body seems somewhat thin though for the style. Very deep ruddy brown, seems black unless you look closely. Small, light-tan head settles rather quickly to a thin ring, and lacing is non-existent. This is an interesting, but not a great porter, a cool beer I’d enjoy drinking once in awhile, but maybe only a couple times a year.
