Pours dark and robust-looking with copious head. Smell is somewhat caramelly/molassey. Flavor is strongly caramel with proper levels of hop bitter for a porter. Plenty of mouthfeel, a great beer overall, but could have more chocolatey or roasty maltiness especially for a beer of this gravity.

Pours a deep brown/black hue with aromas of esspresso and a light vinuousness. Flavors of vanilla, coffee with a light sourness.

Strong, sweet aroma has plenty of roastiness, light fruitiness, alcohol and chocolate. Opaque black body is topped by a large tan head that recedes to cover. Roastiness is strong in the flavour and borders on vegetal but is pulled back by bittersweet cocoa and orange-citrus character. Salty notes emerge as it warms. Somewhat chalky and very dry with lively carbonation that dimples the tongue and cheeks. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (trade, May-05). Thanks, hopdog!

Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Smells of roasted coffee beans, chocolate and dough. Tastes of dark chocolate. Reminds me of hot cocoa. Some underlying fruitiness, but the chocolate and roasted elements dominate this one.

Black in color with a full dark tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and some malt sugars. Roasted malt flavor with some bittersweet malt followed by hop bitterness. Beer finishes dry and bitter with the bitterness lingering on. This is a very fresh bottle and the hop bitterness should mellow more with age. Overall a good porter but a little drier and more bitter than I like my porters.

Pitch black with a hint of crimson at the rim. Meidum size beige head and good lacing. Earthy, roasted malt aroma dominated by toffee and molassas. Medium to full bodied mouthfeel; modestly carbonated. Taste was smooth, slightly oily, lightly hopped, with a mild, nutty flavor. Alc content is deceiving.
