A bit of metal in the nose is also present in the background. Lives up to its name...opaque black color with a tan head made of fine bubbles and nice lacing. Very roasted and almost burnt flavors. There is also a woodsy dryness to this with a touch of peat. Coffee notes and chocolate notes are also present. Not as sweet as the aroma lets on to be. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. Has some characteristics of a Scotch Ale. Needs more body and this just seems a bit scrambled. biznizness (935), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

Interesting character from the molass... another good brew from the boys at Weyerbach. mkgrenwel (420), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 29, 2006 Thanks to Eyedrinkale for this bottle. Almost no aroma at all. My first impression was that this has a lot of flavors typical of a porter, and then a lot that I wasn’t expecting. Strong molasses flavor. Lots of coffee as well. In fact, it reminds me alot of a bad cup of coffee. The lack of sweetness is strange, given the molasses flavor. It’s actually dry, bitter and a bit hoppy. Somehow the malt dowsn’t hold up at first, making it a bit wet and thin. Overall, much thinner than a porter normally would be. I can see how others might enjoy this, but given the lack of aroma, watery palate and my distaste for the overwhelming molasses flavor, I can’t rate this too highly. Not a bad beer, though.

Hoppy and dry. somewhat uninspiring even with all the kitch space themed cartoons on the label. TheBeerNinja (137), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 26, 2006 Pours a transparent blackish brown, with tan head that slowly fizzles down. Nose is pretty subtle, and a little refreshing compared to some of the more aggresive porters. Nice roasted malts linger with few alcohol notes.Tasts is also subdued, yet refreshing again. This is a porter you could drink like lager. imzugzug (103), Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 20, 2006 Very thin mouthfeel for a porter. Not as fullbodied as I would have expected at all. Nice color in the glass with small tannish head. Nice chocolate, roasted nuts and malts aroma. Higly drinkable for a porter. This one might just take me thru spring into early summer. goldtwins (4080), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2006 Poured a clear dark brownish-ruby color with a light tan head. Creamy aroma of coffee and chocolate with a touch of tartness. Decent roasted flavor. Some more chocolate. A little on the light side. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA

Nose is malty, roasty, coffee, slightly sweet. Flavor follows nose, with the maltiness taking the lead. Not a spectacular porter, but pretty good.
